Should Christian be removed from website title?(Should CF be renamed with new vision)

Dr. Loh is still the owner/webmaster of CF.

Loh Enterprises Pty Ltd, a proprietary limited company, has been set up to manage Christian Forums since 2004. Dr Loh remains the webmaster, server administrator and software programmer for the website. He is also the main financial sponsor of the site. He runs this site in addition to having a full-time day job as a lawyer and a medical doctor. He is also an elder in his local non-denominational church.

He could name it www.drstevejsforum.com if he wanted. Wouldn't it be arrogant of us to tell him that he should change the name?

Yes and no. If this were just any old board, for sure. But given its subject matter, and its name, he has a responsibility to uphold certain aspects. If he isn't really willing to do that, that's fair enough, but then he should sell the site to someone who will re-instate its Christian values.

It's also sub-labelled The Largest Christian Chat Forum on the Web. That being the case, certain things are implicit; ie, that this will be a Christian forum; the best one, the *most* Christian, etc, and if it's not anymore - and you've no idea how many people are now saying it's no longer a ministry, but a "message board" - its name needs to reflect that.

Who does he have a responsibility to? Us? God? Even if he would change it, there would still be people complaining that the name was wrong. Do you remember the old DR? Remember some of the member that posted there have posted in here. They'd complain that Erwin wasn't around and wasn't involved. Now he is and they are still complaininig.

No one will be pleased no matter what the name of the joint is. It was Erwin's vision that CF would be a ministry, his ministry. Now that has changed *shrugs* it's still his to determine what it is and what it isn't.

Game premise: Balance Conservative vs. Liberal; Protestant vs. Catholic, etc. into the perfect dynamic tension. Avoid letting any side get too strong to lose the balance.

First Level -- Alpha Phase: staff control the parameters in seeking to preserve the balance.

Shudder. You're absolutely right about DR. It was actually painful. But in terms of who his responsibility to... actually, my main concern is baby Christians who will come here in good faith.

For example, did you know I had a conversation with someone - incidentally, he's actually really lovely - who says he is a Christian but doesn't believe in the devil, believes sin is only a sin if it harms someone else (that's the fundamental part of the Wiccan/Satanist doctrine, by the way), thinks homosexuality isn't a sin and that the Bible has been altered so much it's no longer valid.

He's entitled to call himself a Christian now, and is free to tell baby Christians that that's Christianity. That's the danger. Baby Christians and vulnerable Christians will come here expecting Christianity and be exposed to something else entirely, all because a man bought the ChristianForum.com URL.

Hasn't the threat to baby Christians been here all along? I know it is a concern, it is a concern of mine as well but I don't think that threat is new. I remember a young lady here a while back that was a baby Christian, spent way too much time in GA and is not a Christian any longer. Sad but true, it happened before, it will still happen, it will happen no matter the name.

Erwin actually doesn't have to answer to us; he will have to answer to God, though.

I came here as a baby Christian 4 years ago. I had not yet read the Bible through. I didn't know any "theology" in any formal fashion. I just knew I needed a good church - and knew it was not a liberal one.

Perhaps we aren't giving the Holy Spirit enough credit here. Even Jesus said that he did not lose any that the Father gave to him - except one. I know that the Holy Spirit began guiding me and as long as I followed I was not led astray, even by Christians deconverting here on CF. Surely our faith is stronger than any spiritual crisis the owner might be going through.

You mean like the guy who used to own www.jesus.com? Was it arrogant for people to ask him to stop pretending he was the Messiah and have paid visits to his house so you could "bathe" and "sleep" with "Jesus"?

When your website covers religion and/or politics it does become more than just a DNS entry.

I would not compare him directly to that misguided soul either but your defense of "its his site, he can do whatever he wants and let God judge him" just does not cut the mustard no offense. A site that deals with religion and/or politics becomes more than just a regular internet site.

He has to be beholden to some degree to members and outsiders with such a broad name like "christianforums" just as the the "jesus.com" was held to.

Do you honestly not think it's different now? Truly. Put it this way: would you in all honesty be happy to refer a new Christian to CF as it is at the moment? With its relativism, and wiki and debate about dis/allowing blasphemy... would you recommend CF as a site that epitomizes what Christ stands for?

I would have never referred them before either, not as long as there was GA. Before there was much of a congregation forum there was just PRE and OBOB. I wouldn't want a baby Christian to step foot in there either. This is mild.

And if he doesn't change the name? What? Will the issue ever die or will this continue to rage on forever? We can be beacons of light to the babies that are here and also non-christians. Or we can just keep doing what we've been doing.

Let's just say for argument's sake this goes totally downhill and becomes either anti-Christian or so muddled its can no longer be called really "Christian". Let's say Erwin actively supports the site changing nature. Would it be fair for him to still list this as "christianforums" if it no longer is that?

That is just a hypothetical question.

To answer your question, no, this issue will never die unless we go back to the old rules/format. I would also argue that fighting for true definitions of real Christianity does "babes" a whooooole lot more good than offering a bowl of mushed up moral relativity and assuring them "its Christian if you say it is".

Yes, I completely agree. If someone is a new Christian or is seeking God, what does it show them when Christians are willing to give up their convictions and compromise on key biblical issues? Does it teach them that the Bible, God's Word, is important? I think not. Rather, it teaches them that it really doesn't matter as long as you just "love Jesus" and that the Bible is really irrelevant. And when they decide this, who is responsible?!? The people who taught them this. I do not want that on my conscience.
