Fair enough, but I think part of it is just how much CNN, NYT, etc. are touted as THE reliable news sources to follow, and so people get caught up in trash posting against them.

I know we disagree, but while the NYT might not be as good as it once was, I don't think it's remotely comparable to the likes of CNN or the other cable news networks, which are all narrative and ratings driven media-lite sources.

I also disagree as to the "why" that CNN gets trashed. It definitely appears much more ideology driven than a backlash against them being touted as one of THE reliable sources to follow, although obviously their visibility plays a role as well.

Nah, CNN gets trashed because of how they treat people. Threatening to dox that guy who made a meme about them, going up and knocking on some rando's house and accusing her of supporting the Russians, etc. and flat out lying to people about stupid crap ("Illegal to read DNC leaks!"). They're doing the same thing CBS was doing in the mid-to-late 90's and early 00's. Remember Connie Chung, Dan Rather, etc? People are taught that the media is this great and sacred institution, and so when a particular channel completely abandons all pretense, it's basically painting a bullseye on their back.

Sure, there's partisanship to it, but if that were the main reason, MSNBC would get a lot more crap than it does.
