  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

More of the story ...
FL Shooting Survivor Colton Haab: CNN Told Me I Needed To "Stick To The Script"; Entire Town Hall Scripted

COLTON HAAB: So what had happened was four days ago I had gotten contacted by a lady named [State of the Union executive producer] Carrie Stevenson from CNN. She had asked me originally to just write a speech. It was going to be at the town hall at the BB&T Center [in Sunrise, Florida]. So I agreed. I felt like it would be the right thing to do. Be able to go speak my part as well as open eyes to a few things that I thought that can make this situation a little better. From there, three days ago, so the next day after that I had gotten an email back from her and she asked for more of questions rather than a speech. Which I was totally fine with so I wrote a little less of a speech and more of questions that I wanted to ask at the town hall. The day after that it was more of just questions. She asked for just questions that I would like to ask.

So, I gave her my questions and then yesterday, at about 5:15, I made contact with her. And she had asked if I had just asked her one question. So what they had actually done was wrote out a question for me because in my interview with CNN, I had talked about arming the teachers, if they were willing to arm themselves in the school to carry on campus. And they had -- she had taken that of what I had briefed on and actually wrote that question out for me. So I have that question here if you would like me to ask it for you.

...
"I just want to make sure I have this straight. So you sent them a long, in effect essay on what you thought but they put their own words in the question and they weren't the same as the words you had sent in? They were the producer's words?" Carlson asked.

"Absolutely," Haab answered. "They had taken what I had wrote and what I had briefed on and talked about and they actually wrote the question for me."
...
"So if CNN was willing to re-word your question, put their own words in your mouth, and as you said you didn't want to go along with that, do you think they did that to other people last night?" Carlson asked.

"Absolutely, from what I did see, I seen a couple people that had asked questions before I did leave my house. And it was a little piece of paper cut out. And I know for a fact that nobody cut their own paper out and wrote their own question.

Ooops. Looks those of us who said Colton was full of it have been vindicated. I wonder if any of those who were promoting his story have apologized for spreading fake news.

Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity concede CNN 'scripting' story was bogus - Philly

After saying the initial response of the Haab family was “they were being slandered by CNN,” Carlson conceded that CNN did not appear to give Haab a scripted question.

“For the sake of honesty and full disclosure to which we are committed, we have to tell you there is no evidence as of right now that CNN tried to give Colton Haab a scripted question, and we wanted you to know that,” Carlson said.

Even Tucker Carlson and freakin' Hannity admitted this was fake news.

(snip)

[It's a rhetorical question. We all know why CNN outright LIED about scripting the Town Hall. They don't want people to realize that's what they do. In truth, at this point they've done it so long they may not even acknowledge it to themselves.]

"We all know"? LOL!

Yep. Unfortunately, the channel that they were claims against is known for being dishonest propaganda as well, and so people believed the kid.

Actually that would be Fox. You know, the channel that two of it's evening hosts were somehow shamed into admitting they'd been promoting fake news and propaganda.

It's pretty sad to see these kids who are grieving being used by their parents and the news organizations to push political agendas. Expect more of it as we approach November.

Yeah, like Colton Haab was used by his dad and Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Gateway Pundit, Breibart, etc. etc. to push political agendas. It was pretty sad.

There has never, in the history of American cable news, been a channel as unethical as CNN. More partisan? Absolutely. More full of bull squeeze? Definitely. But none of the other networks dare go as low against common folk as CNN will. This is the station that is currently trying to chase off the advertisers of InfoWars, and trying to get them thrown off of youtube.

I mean, Alex Jones is a laughing stock, but I don't agree with trying to run him out of business. Why are they going after him? Heck if I know. All that I can say is that this is just another in a long list of evidence that shows just how worthless cnn is.

Alex Jones is scum who helped perpetuate the ‘crisis actor’ lies about Sandy Hook and other shootings. Grieving parents suddenly had to deal with crazy people sending them death threats and claiming they were actors. Jones was responsible for spreading those lies so he could sell more products on his ridiculous channel.

Anyone who tries to destroy his business is doing a public service.

But surely that is a good thing?

Infowars is hardly something that should be supported by anyone who does not own a tinfoil hat.

Good for CNN if they are going against Inforwars (Mis-Inforwars!). Alex Jones creates more false news than anyone. It was evil of him to promote the lies about Sandy Hook, pizzagate and 9/11 as an inside job.

I don't like InfoWars any more than you, but I don't support deplatforming people. This is a major difference between liberals and progressives, as we liberals support the freedom of speech for those who we disagree with.

I support freedom of speech, but recognize limits as does the law. You can't scream fire in a crowded theater - that is one limit to free speech. There are also limits regarding slander and libel. Jones' junk about Sandy Hook is harmful and hurtful to the parents that lost children. I think they should sue him.

And TPTB at CNN have free speech as well - to say Jones should not be on you tube or have limits put on him.

Is there any evidence of CNN trying to shut down Infowars, or is this another example of fake news like the supposed $30 million lawsuit that that declared it "fake news" or where they supposedly tried to feed Colton Haab a script?

They used children too when Obamacare was being repealed. Every night on the news I'd hear stories about how many children would lose their healthcare if Obamacare was repealed, even though they wouldn't "lose" it at all, but their parents would simply get to choose whether to have it or not without being penalized if they don't.
No, many families would LOOSE coverage because they wouldn't be able to pay the premiums on their own. These would mainly be the working poor and lowest of the middle class.
You can't choose to have something that you cannot pay for.

I think Alex Jones promoting his Sandy Hook lies is paramount to yelling fire in a theater. He could have gotten an innocent person/s killed.

I find that claim highly dubious.

You can't scream fire in a crowded theater - that is one limit to free speech

And that has nothing to do with what we are talking about.

There are also limits regarding slander and libel. Jones' junk about Sandy Hook is harmful and hurtful to the parents that lost children. I think they should sue him.

I agree. However, that's what the laws and the government are for. I'm sure that you are aware that CNN has nothing to do with either.

And TPTB at CNN have free speech as well - to say Jones should not be on you tube or have limits put on him.

Yes, they do. However, is it ethical for a network to run pieces encouraging people to report their videos or calling their sponsors? Someone might have the right to do something, but it doesn't make them any less of a jag-off for doing it.

Well, I find quite a few things you say dubious. Let's keep it civil.

Prove to me they have crossed a line in their actions.

I wonder what percent of people who believed this bit of nonsense also believed the drivel about the survivors being “crisis actors”?

I am always civil. :)

And what could I possibly provide that you would not see as justifiable?
