  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From time to time, I sometimes
PONDER, over-stuff, that is discovered in and around the world
STUFF, that exists, without explanation, for it's existence

On this occasion, I am concerned, regarding
the 'source' of, all that "Space Junk" that we have, 'orbiting' our planet

It would seem to have amassed to some considerable QUANTITY
over the past 50 years
Indeed, there would seem to be, RATHER TOO MUCH (?)
~for, the short time, we have been launching off-world

Space junk could help us find aliens

The Van Allen Belts

These Fields Of Plasma, are an interesting relic, of past-times
and are, certainly TOXIC, to LIFE

Maybe, they were installed there
to keep Satan and the other fallen angels from wandering around the Universe
~A Prison Planet (?) for maybe we-too ??

The Van Allen radiation belts are indeed a serious hazard to any astronaut spending an extended time within them. All the earth orbit manned missions' including the international space station' are well below this radiation hazard. However, the manned missions to the moon had to transit the VA belts both outbound and inbound. A lethal radiation dosage is 300 Rad in one hour. At the time of these missions the VA belts had been well mapped out in terms of radiation intensities. The Apollo mission's average speed through the belts was about 25,000 km/hr for a transit time of about 53 min each both outbound and inbound. Each transit would have resulted in crew members receiving about 12 Rads of radiation. So each astronaut on each complete Mission would have received about 24 Rads or about 8% of a lethal dose. Is there a risk? Yes, but it was a calculated risk. All such voyages of exploration were calculated risks. Some never came back. Lief Erikson, Christopher Columbus and Ferdinand Magellan did. Well, Magellan died in the last leg of the journey home, but his crew did make it back with his records. They were all calculated risks. That is how human progress takes place. The risks may vary but they are all risks.

I guess, many, will have MISSED
another-side, to 'that' story

Where spacecraft and, 'their content' BECOME IRRADIATED
and where irradiated materials, then, have their own 'HALF LIVES'

Further, I would add_
that radio transmission and receipt, via the Plasma, has NOT been recorded,
as-having caused 'difficulty'
during the Moon Missions
Something, which is obviously, just another of those "ooops" we keep reading about

On 6 June 1944 the Regina Rifle Regiment (RRR) took part in the D-Day landings. They were part of the 7th brigade of the 3rd Canadian division. They were brigaded with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and the Canadian Scottish Regiment. They landed in Mike sector of Juno Beach. After a bitter fight on the beach with heavy casualties they broke through and ended up making the deepest penetration of any unit on D-Day. This excludes the airborne units of course! To avoid being exposed and cut off they were ordered to withdraw somewhat.

The following day (D+1) General Kurt Meyer of the 12th SS Panzer Division assembled his unit for a counter attack. This was a veteran, well-tested, well-equipped elite division. His objective was to split the Normandy invasion beachhead into two smaller beachheads each of which to be dealt with individually. In the late evening hours of D+2 his division attacked Bretteville l’Orueilleuse. This position was occupied by the Regina Rifles. During the night the 12th SS Panzers virtually over-ran Bretteville. The 900 prairie boys of the RRR never retreated. At point blank range these young men who had exactly two days of combat experience fought back. They opposed the Panzers with anti-tank guns, sticky-bombs, grenades, and PIAT projectors. Throughout the night the battle cry was “ They shall not pass!” In the morning the badly battered 12th SS Panzers withdrew to fight again another day. The prairie boys had defeated the elite of the German Army and the Normandy beachhead survived.

Although on a smaller scale, this battle ranks with the Battle of the Bulge as a pivotal encounter of WWII. Canadians are perhaps too modest with the result that this battle is almost unrecognized beyond those who fought it. In writing the battle history of the 12th SS Panzer Division General Kurt Meyer certainly recognized his defeat and honoured those who defeated him.

It is also worth noting that the Regina Rifles sustained the highest regimental casualty rate of the Canadian Army in WWII. In eleven months action they suffered 1946 casualties including 458 dead.

My Dad,was taken up by The Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry
and, after basic training applied and was accepted by The Parachute Regiment

My Dad wore a crimson beret with wings
with the 1st Independant Parachute Regiment
in a Brigade, the name of which, escapes-me, sorry

My Dad was machine-gunned while jumping (arriving) over Arnhem
while attached to the 101st Airborne Division, ~for Market-Garden / Arnhen sorties
during 17th-26th September 1944 and was brought home and invalided

Jackalope.jpg

This is the last known photo of a living Jackalope (Cyprus Hills region in southwestern Saskatchewan, 1 April 2017). Once common in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Montana and the Dakotas now listed as severely endangered due to senseless overhunting. You will find mounted specimens like the below in bars throughout the area.
