On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed--God is our witness. We were not looking for praise from men, not from you or anyone else.

As apostles of Christ we could have been a burden to you, but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.

For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

I give you thanks, O LORD, with all my heart; I will sing your praises before the gods.

I bow before your holy Temple as I worship.
I will give thanks to your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness,
because your promises are backed by all the honor of your name.

When I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me the strength I need.

Every king in all the earth will give you thanks, O LORD, for all of them will hear your words.

Yes, they will sing about the LORD's ways, for the glory of the LORD is very great.

Though the LORD is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud.

Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will preserve me against the anger of my enemies.
You will clench your fist against my angry enemies!

Your power will save me. The LORD will work out his plans for my life--
for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever.
Don't abandon me, for you made me.

Isa 53:4 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.

Isa 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.
May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father
when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.

O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.

You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my every thought when far away.

You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am.

You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD.

You both precede and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to know!

I can never escape from your spirit! I can never get away from your presence!

If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the place of the dead, you are there.

If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.

I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night--

but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are both alike to you.


Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.

Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Isa 40:1

Comfort, comfort my people,

says your God.

Isa 40:2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,

that her hard service has been completed,

that her sin has been paid for,

that she has received from the LORD's hand

double for all her sins.

"In the desert prepare

the way for the LORD;

a highway for our God.

Isa 40:4 Every valley shall be raised up,

every mountain and hill made low;

the rough ground shall become level,

the rugged places a plain.

Isa 40:5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed,

and all mankind together will see it.

God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and many ways,
in these last days has spoken to us in His Son,

whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.

And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.

When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; having become much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellant name than they. For to which of the angels did He ever say,

"THOU ART MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN THEE"? Hebrews 1: 1-5a

It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Philippians 2:12-13 ~ ... therefore, continue to work out your salvation ... for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.

I love this verse because it tells me that I am not alone in my faith, but that God has given me an active faith in which He and I are at work. And because all things are possible for God, I know any plans built with Him will succeed. He is my Rock, my Salvation!

This is a great chapter. So many guidelines to living the Christian life.

So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate,
and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you,
who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you.
Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt.
Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.
May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I was sharing this verse with one of my friends here on CF today. Life is hard, and tempations bombard us from all sides. But in the midst of those, we can always call upon our Saviour for help. We can come to the throne of God in confidence, knowing that because of what Christ done for us we can trust Him. And if we fail, God's havnd of grace and mercy wipes our slate clean with the blood of the Lamb.

Psalm 141:8-10

I look to you for help, O Sovereign LORD. You are my refuge; don't let them kill me.

Proverbs 30:18-20

There are three things that amaze me--no, four things I do not understand:
how an eagle glides through the sky,
how a snake slithers on a rock,
how a ship navigates the ocean,
how a man loves a woman.
Equally amazing is how an adulterous woman can satisfy her sexual appetite, shrug her shoulders,

Here is some talk about what happens to good and bad people during the end times . . .

All this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.

He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
