I'm sure something similar to this has been posted before, but it was worth a shot.
I know one of the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach so...
Wives, share a recipe you make that your husband LOVES and husbands, share a recipe that your wife makes that you LOVE!
Or vice versa, if we have some cooking men and non-cooking women. Don't wanna make stereotypes, lol.
My husband likes EVERYTHING I cook because I'm an awesome cook and he likes everything, even really really old leftovers... haha
So I will just share one recipe that I made recently- my chili.
I make it alot of different ways, but the most common way that I do it is this:
-1 lb of ground turkey
-28 oz canned diced tomatoes
-14 oz spicy chili beans in a can
-1 bell pepper
-1 carrot
-1 onion
-chives or scallions
-garlic powder
-chili powder
-brown sugar
-salt
-Optional red pepper
1) In a large pot, I turn the heat to med-high and brown the ground turkey and chives for 5-6 minutes. Sometimes I add a little oil so it doesn't scorch. When the turkey is mostly brown, I add the chili powder and garlic.
2) I add the canned tomatoes and beans, with their juice, to the meat and all the chopped up onion, bell pepper and carrot. Then I turn the pot to high.
3) While its coming to a boil, I add 1/2 tsp of salt, 1 tsp brown sugar and red pepper then when it starts to boil, I turn it way down to low.
4) I let it cook, covered for about 30 minutes until the flavor really blossoms.
5) I serve it over rice or pasta.
This chili is so versatile! You can skip the beans for people who don't like them. Just add an extra 14 oz can of tomatoes.
If they think turkey is "too lean" and they like their red meat, use ground beef. But drain and rinse it first before adding the spices and chives.
If they don't like tomatoes they shouldn't be eating chili.
If they don't like spice, don't use pepper and don't use chili spice beans, use plain ones instead.
If they don't like carrots or one of those other things, just use more of the other two vegatables.
I have been making this recipe for 7 years (so yes, since BEFORE I met my husband) and I've made it 50+ times for a few hundred people collectively, from just my one guy to a group of 40 bible study guests and only once has it gone wrong, because that batch I forgot to turn it down when it came to a boil so it cooked on high for nearly 20 minutes before I caught it and it started to taste burnt.
Your Turn!
