I had a strange yet scary dream during my nap yesterday and I would like to know what this means. I was walking outside of a convenient store and a stranger set me on fire. It was scary and it was difficult even when others tried to help me. I tried to stop, drop, and roll, but it was to no avail. Even though others tried to help me there was no water available at the time. Well someone finally poured water on me yet I was left unsinged except for some of my hair. Finally I went to the hospital and I my clothes were not burned but my hair was of a different style. It was rather strange. Is there a meaning behind dreams in general, including this one? Is there a spiritual meaning behind this dream? Should I be worried or afraid?

Many people do not even remember their dreams.

Dreaming is natural. Everyone dreams. Don't try to over analyze it.

I am not 100% sure this is what the dream means, so please just take this as more of an observation instead of the exact interpretation. When I first read the dream I was reminded of Pentecost in the book of Acts, where fire fell on the believers and they received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. The fact that you are near a convenience store/gas station further confirms this since they can represent "to receive power," just as the believers did in Acts. The fact that a stranger set you on fire may indicate that you are unfamiliar with this, possibly even afraid or uneasy with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, this is further expounded upon since you try to extinguish the fire and implore the help of others to assist you in putting it out. Eventually, someone does manage to extinguish the fire, which could indicate that others have/will use the Word of God, which is what water represents, to try and convince you that what you experienced isn't of God. The fact that your clothes were not burned can indicate that your "works" or life may not be affected initially, but the fact that your hair was burned can indicate there will be a lasting impression in your wisdom/understanding of what happened to you. The hospital indicates a place of healing where it is apparent that your hair style changed, which indicates to me that you will go through a time of healing which will change the way you view the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, also hair can mean anointing as well so it may mean aspects of that may change as well. I hope this helps, but remember this may not be correct, so don't take my word for it. Pray and ask God about it more than anything.

One thing I know for sure is that change can be scary. God wants to change us, but to do that he subjects us to trials and tribulations that are often painful and sometimes traumatic. In the end, we're okay and transformed into a better person, like a diamond in the rough that undergoes a lot of grinding and polishing. The diamond may be smaller afterward, but the end result is a glorious thing.

Revelations 3:18- "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see."

1Peter1:7- "That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:"

Yeah but all dreams mean something to you, they always do even if you do not see it.

My dreams mean something, maybe explainable, maybe not explainable. Our sub conscious mind is always working in the background, however many times we are not aware of what's going on, our brain is a very complex thing. We probably cannot figure it out with a few guess interpretations and since people are all different and we all assign different values and meanings, that throws most other opinions out the window.

So, what's the point in guessing. Your guess is probably wrong at least 85 % of the time. That's not good odds to me. i'd rather say i don't know. More accurate and I don't have a problem not knowing everything.

I think most dreams are simply your subconscious processing things you've thought about or seen/watched while awake. No matter how weird/bizarre I can almost always pinpoint the reason why I dream about certain things. I would be neither worried nor afraid. It is never wrong to ignore one's dreams- in fact- it is advantageous to not give them any thought.

True dreams with any sort of spiritual significance from God are rare- and most people who think they have them are more than likely falling into spiritual delusion instead of entertaining the notion that the dreams aren't really from God. Plenty of Church Fathers warned against paying any attention to one's dreams for this reason.

ETA: In fact- I'll go so far as to say that the problem with so many Christians jumping on the dream interpretation wagon is that it is thinly veiled fortune telling at best. It's just like using your bible as a magic eight ball. May as well break out a tarot deck.

Not all dreams are from Messiah. Some are, but I don't think any of us can give the interpretation. When Daniel gave the interpretation of Nebuchhednezzar's (however it's spelled! lol) dream He said that such interpretations come from the Almighty.

So, if you don't get an answer from Him on why you had that dream, I would drop it. Nothing really harmful happened to you in the dream, and that seems like a point in its favor.

Praying you will get the interpretation and peace one way or another.

It is good to work toward understanding of what goes through your mind. A dream has gone through your mind for a reason -- whether sorting out collected observations and feelings, or realizing input.

If you resist reflecting on what's in your mind, then what will you do when it happens again? It is not bad to be a gatekeeper of your own mind. If God is in conversation with you during the day, then there is no reason to block what He might say to you in a different way at night. Just recognize that dreams are not defined truths, or solid predictions, or earthshaking commands -- they are vague hints.

In approaching dreams, start with how you understand each object, and the emotions that accompanied the visuals:

I was walking outside of a convenient store

When we walk, we are in independent control of where we're headed.
We go to convenience stores to make choices, get things. Resource.

and a stranger set me on fire.

Someone outside your realm of influence caused you trouble. Setting on fire is the beginning of something that will spread faster than you can control.

It was scary and it was difficult even when others tried to help me.

I tried to stop, drop, and roll, but it was to no avail.

Following time-tested protocols didn't solve the problem. People like to tell us what to do, what will work, but in real life the troubles are more unpredictable. Lawsuits come up, people steal from us and lie, incriminate us... it does not always go well.

Even though others tried to help me there was no water available at the time.

This shows it wasn't just smarts, but resources that would be necessary -- like funds. There aren't many ways to put out fires -- smothering, which you already tried -- and dousing with water, which you didn't have access to.

Well someone finally poured water on me

Water is often mysteriously connected to people in dreams. A large body of water can show public masses. The gesture of pouring here was a refreshing attempt to cool and stop what endangered you. It was social and thoughtful.

Sometimes people also see water --especially rivers and fountains -- as the lifegiving presence of God.

yet I was left unsinged except for some of my hair.

Hair is an adornment that is an extension of our bodies, a protective covering, something we change so others perceive us differently, an appearance we assess and define others by. "A blonde, a crew cut, a bluehair"
When our hair is damaged, it is like our reputation has been scorched. In the dream, you didn't endure real injury but had a little bruising in appearances.

Finally I went to the hospital and I

As said above, a hospital is a place of healing, where experts tend to us and we can let go of our own responsibility for a time. Sometimes ministries or general response efforts appear as hospitals in dreams. It could also be a job center, a school that retrains... anything that leads you through the restoration process.

my clothes were not burned but my hair was of a different style.
Two forms of protecting covering compared -- your appearance/reputation had a makeover.
Your head is where your decisions are made; your body is how you move forward and implement the decisions.

Imagine if you were a marketing exec in a corporation that went through a painful takeover.... people got laid off, and you were able to find a job as a preschool teacher. After that, people saw you as a teacher, not a marketing exec. You still had an income, an influence, stability, but endured some changes. You were still able to implement, but didn't look as glossy and tangle-free.

Now after you look through how the visual symbols tell a story -- and correct anything I said that didn't fit -- then start to look at how an imposition of risk and volatility might fit into your life, or situations you observe around the world.

Is there anything you need to pray for, attend to, rethink...reflect on it as a conversation, an infusion of insight.

When Joseph understood the dream showed drought, he did not have a command from God, "Now you musteth build grain silos!" The compassion within him stirred to find solutions for what he projected people would endure. Love, faith, and sensibility drove the response to the dream.

the fact that your hair was burned can indicate there will be a lasting impression in your wisdom/understanding of what happened to you. The hospital indicates a place of healing

So, you don't think God gives some Christians the gift of interpretation?

1Corin.12:10- "To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:"

1Corin.14:26- "How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, everyone of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying."
