Server crash - 31 March 2004

Did the server really get that many hits, Erwin? I noticed that whenever the board went down then came back, there were more users online each time. I wondered if it was throwing an error on the hit counts.

The first crash had an even 4,000 additional ppl loading the server. The new 'record' lists 5,334 users I believe, but the number should be 1,334 set on March 29 2004 at 4:50 pm eastern time. If my memory serves me correctly that is.

perhaps when someone has to sign up to be a member there should be a goofy grid box (dont know what its called) with a word inside of it that you have to manually type in order to register. Yahoo.com has it in thier registration process, apprently it prevents bots or whatever to sign up random names.

That is considering it was some bored nut out there, might help next time.

Yeah, this is real supicious. There are only 10,000 members and most or at least many of them never log on right? So why all of the sudden?

well, as of 10:40 pacific standard time, it says there are 30,927 members. was that an increase of 20,000??? OUCH!

let's hope they all signed up to get saved.....

No, we've had 30,000 members for almost a week now. You guys need to keep track of our growth. The last time we had 10,000 members it was middle of last year.

Is there any way to find out guests' IP addresses? I find it hard to believe there would be that many ppl all at once, and then the count drops again.

Also, if we actually do have this many guests, surely they'd be a more ppl signing up than there are? The Newest Member name hasn't changed in the last half hour.

Some 'guests' are search engine 'spiders' (the whatever-they-actually-ares that go and search out new sites), but I don't think that accounts for that many of the guests...

Im not sure thats a good goal, but I was playing in the arcade and was about to capture a high score, and it deterred me when it crashed. No not really, could have been though.
