  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ugh here it is, I should have figured Drudge would have it. It came up 49-50 -defeat, gives a new meaning to “sleeper cell agents” no doubt. http://www.washtimes.com/national/20060518-114132-2456r.htm

I need those 49 names…

"The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents."

UPDATE (cant reply yet due to forum bug). The 49 names are actually those who voted not to give illegal aliens the right to collect Social Security. Soooo... those voting YEAs, 50 votes, are the ones that think illegal aliens have a right to collect Social Security. It passed... :( http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00130

Another article easier to understand
The Ensign Amendment Fiasco

The Senate has by a 50-49 vote allowed a provision to remain in the Immigration Bill allowing illegal aliens to claim Social Security benefits. There is no way to sugar-coat what a disaster this is for Republicans and for the country.

So let's see......

I, a law-abiding natural born U.S. citizen who has paid into the SS system, will have to work until the day I die because SS won't be around when I retire.....

...and the idiots that run this country want to give the money to people who broke the law??????

Someone, PLEASE give me a one-way ticket out of this country.

EDIT: P.S....I don't generally like to call people "idiots", but right now I can't possibly hold back my anger about this.

I hear ya, I'm just a few yrs younger than you and for the first time I'm writing off the possibility of social security being around in a few years to come.

Social security to some degree pays out more than what you put into it, illegals do not deserve this and it's absolutely senile these people are to think they can just give away these funds to people that not only are not supposed to be here in the first place but often take advantage of services that are already bankrupting states. On top of that, it's promoting a big incentive for those thinking of illegally coming here that have not done so as of yet. I'm surprised a fist fight didn't break out after the vote, what's up with this?!?

Wow. I can't believe they are going to give social security to illegal immigrants!

Why not? Isn't one of the biggest complaints about illegals that they don't pay taxes or pay into social security?

We lack the capability to send all the illegals home at one time, so doesn't it make sense to have them add to federal and SS revenues while they're here?

I think it's unfair, lol I have been waiting for my greencard for 17 years, (They cancelled my application when i reached 21 and had to reapply) Thanks to my disability, I can enter into the US with a humanitarian parole, but i have to renew it every year until my greencard eventually get issued. The legal channel is took longer than the illegal channel, so unfair. lol

That's absalutly nuts. We don't have the money to kick out these lawbreakers but plenty of cash to pander to them for years to come?!?

I think you misunderstood. They're not paying in to social security, they're taking from it! This is what makes me so mad. I wouldn't be mad about it if they were paying in to social security but they're not. Its like they're going to get free money now!

I'm not familiar with the terminology you're using to please excuse me if I say something wrong or whatever. I hope you get things sorted out. :)

It's not necessarily about not having the money, it's about not having the manpower to hunt down each and every one of them.

How is this giving cash to pander to them? What's wrong with having these people pay taxes and social security while they stay here as opposed to not paying taxes and social security? You complain about the strain these people put on our education and health care system, but you don't want them to pay to fix it? So what do you want that can actually be accomplished?

These type of wait times along with the massive influx of illegals is exactly why the US also needs to streamline the legal immigration system.

I think you misunderstand actually.

This is granted to immigrants that have paid into the medicare and social security program. If immigrants know they are paying into something they can later draw from for retirement, they will be far more apt to pay taxes/social security.
