Almost Home by Irvin Rozier 6/09/2007 / Poetry I preach at a nursing home to just a fewThey sit in wheelchairs instead of a pewMost are disabled and sick in many waysBut the glory comes down as many praysI look out and see tears streaming down facesAs their hearts longs for the heavenly placesSoon they will walk on those golden streetsAnd see the place where the angel choir meetsThey clap their hands as we sing "I'll Fly Away"Maybe some will go to be with Jesus this very dayEveryone attending was once a little girl or boyI am sure they were their parents' pride and joyNow their twilight years are hereAnd the end of their life is very nearSoon they will lay their burdens downAnd go receive their well earned crown Copyright 2007 Irvin L. God takes care of us
Big or small
Urgent or not
As well as knows our every
Thoughts, prayers, and concerns
Way, way, before we know them.
That is what is so good about Him!

An ordinary Joe is not famous in any way
He just goes about his business day by day
You pass many ordinary Joes on the street
They are not influential enough for a politician to meet

Ordinary Joes live their lives, have families and work
Many of them have jobs with nary a perk
Yet deep inside they believe in their fellow man
Their Mom or their Dad is their number one fan

Ordinary Joes just want to be left alone
They could care less about sitting on a throne
But these ordinary Joes can be a powerful force
When they unite with one purpose and with one voice

God often chooses ordinary Joes for a specific task
He knows that only in His presence they will bask
Noah was an ordinary Joe, a hardworking man
When God gave him an ark to build according to His plan

Gideon's family was poor and of them he was the least
When God chose him to change the famine to a feast
Amos was no prophet, just a herdman was he
When God said go prophesy, I have chosen thee

Peter and John were ignorant and unlearned men
Yet Jesus chose them as disciples along with the other ten
The Bible is filled with stories of those that God chose
To turn the world upside down though they were ordinary Joes

The Loom of Time

Our's life is laid in the loom of time
To pattern we do not see,
While the weavers work and the shuttles fly
Till dawn of eternity.

Some shuttles are filled with silver threads
And some with threads of gold,
While often but the darker hues
Are all that they may hold.

But the weaver watches with skillful eye
Each shuttle fly to and fro,
And sees the pattern so deftly wrought
As the loom moves sure and slow.

God surely planned the pattern:
Each thread, the dark, the fair,
Is chosen by His Master skill
And placed in the web with care.

He knows only it's beauty,
And guides the shuttles which hold
The threads so unattractive,
As well as the threads of gold.

Not till each loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God reveal the pattern
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads were as needful
In the weavers skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
For the pattern which He planned.

I supposed I knew my bible,
Reading piecemeal, hit and miss;
Now a bit of “John” or “Matthew”,
Next a snatch of “Genisis.”
Certain chapters of “Isaiah”
Certain “Psalms”- the 23rd,
12th of “Romans”, 1st of “Proverbs”
Yes, I thought I knew the Word.
But I found a thorough reading
Was a different thing to do,
And the way was unfamiliar
When I read the bible through.
Ye who treat the Crown of Writings
As you treat no other book-
Just a paragraph disjointed,
Just a crude, impatient look-
Try a worthier procedure,
Try a broad and steady view;
You will kneel in very rapture
When you read the bible through.

Jesus was sent on the Cross
To die for us and to save us from
Eternal separation from God and
From heaven. Without Him, we would
Be in a lost and dying world.

It's not as champions or honored ones that God we please,
But when we come, broken and hurting,

A ONE WORD PRAYER​

I just breathe the name of Jesus
when my heart is filled with fear.
And though I cannot see His face,
I know that He is near.​

When I whisper "Jesus" softly
I'm admitting I'm in need.
By calling out that precious name,
my stress-bound soul is freed.​

It's a one-word prayer I utter
when I'm not sure what to pray.
It's a prayer of sweet surrender
when I'm weary of "my way."​

I pray "Jesus" when I'm worried
or when I am depressed.
I say "Jesus" when my mind's confused
or when my life's a mess.​

It's a prayer He always answers
as He gives me eyes to see
evidences of His presence
and His tender love for me.​

The road is narrow it seems to be
Just room God gives for Him and me
The times I fall He patiently sits
and waits for me to gain my wits
Altho the mountains so pure above
it's in the valleys He teaches His love
So tiring it's true this journey no end
my help comes from You my most faithful Friend
When I get there to other side
I'll get there b/c I had You by my side.
