Wagner, R-Spring Garden Township, had told his audience, "I haven't been in a science class in a long time, but the Earth moves closer to the sun every year -- you know, the rotation of the Earth. We're moving closer to the sun."

He also said, "We have more people ... you know, humans have warm bodies. So is heat coming off? Things are changing ... but I think we are, as a society, doing the best we can."

Wagner is a Pennsylvania state senator and the republican candidate for governor.

The Earth is not spiraling toward the Sun. In fact, it's moving away by a tiny 5 inches or so every year. And human body heat has absolutely no effect on global temperatures.

Yesterday was Earth Day. The local news reported that the temps in MA went up two degrees since 1970
when Earth Day was first established. :D

Also, it is reported that the earth is 20% greener than it was just 20 years ago. Plants love
carbon. If you think global warming is bad, think what things would be like if the earth was
getting colder?

It's AMAZING to me that God made a natural mechanism for us to correct our poor stewardship. Unfortunately, nobody is heeding the signs we are being shown and those natural mechanisms are simply getting overpowerered and ineffectual.

Here's the beauty of a cooling earth:
Humans can put on more clothes.

Here's the struggle of a warming earth:
Humans can't take off their skin to cool down.
The number of heat related deaths is increasing.

IT's not that I "think" climate change is bad, it's that it IS bad.

"I haven't been in a science class for a long time but I'm not going to listen to scientists".

There is a fundamental problem with hubris in America.
Today's winner.

That's another huge problem, one that's likely to kill a lot of people.

Less Nutritious Crops: Another Result of Rising CO2

Rising carbon levels are eroding nutritional values of staple crops, threatening millions with hidden hunger.

Last time I took Biology was in 2014. Amazing how little our brains retain when information isn't actively being used ;) Anyway, the earth rotating around the sun is elementary level science. It's sad, he doesn't understand that. Oh well. :(

I agree! I haven't been in a science class (as a student) since the year 1998. BUT I have immersed myself frequently in scientific topics that I am fascinated by and I follow reputable scientific bodies.

I'm more embarrassed.

This is fallacy!

Crops don't care where the carbon comes from. They'll use what's available for them.

Farmers can do grow foods that are nutritious. Scientists like Dr Patrick Moore says that
anti-climate groups are doing more harm than good and often lying about what is
taking place.

The best thing we can do for poor nations is make energy cheaper for them. Green energy is
expensive and forcing poorer nations to stop using fossil fuels only keeps them poor.

I perform a quick fact check. The likely source for spreading the "20% greener" claim is Jordan Peterson. He posted the claim on X last year, but he does not cite a source. (The linked NY Times article does not mention the greening.)

I did find a report from NASA in 2019 which supports the idea of "greening." It says the Earth is 5% greener than the previous 20 years. The article explains:

So the greening is the result of tree planting and agriculture. I find this an interesting coincidence because today happens to be Arbor Day.
Actually, it wasn't Jordan Peterson who originally reported it, but NASA. Jordan Peterson is whom I heard it from, so I googled it
to verify if his claim was credible or not. It was!

and;

so this is a bad thing only because it doesn't fit the government narrative back when Biden was president. That has changed now,
scientist aren't being threatened with the government withholding research grants if they don't speak the government line.

It's a fact. Not just one study. Many studies.
Crops don't care where the carbon comes from.
It's not the origin of carbon, it's the amount of carbon dioxide. Higher carbon dioxide levels mean lower nutritional level. Not debatable.

Lots more like that.

expensive
That's wrong, too.

Wind energy has been the cheapest source of new electricity in the U.S. for about a decade, according to the Lazard financial services company’s annual levelized cost of energy report.

I referenced and linked to a NASA report. It's the same report which your two sources are reporting on.

I wrote:

The Earth is not 20% greener as reported by Peterson. It is 5% greener.

The Earth is not greener because "plants love carbon." The Earth is greener because China and India are engaged in massive tree planting initiatives and agriculture.
The 20% greener was my mistake. 20 is the years the study was made.
Yes, it's 5% greener.

So what? Is that a bad thing?

Carbon isn't the problem as people think.
Here's a video with Dr Patrick Moore. I'm sure
there is disagreement, but I happen to agree with
him.

Poor nations disagree. They would rather "skip" fossil fuels and go straight to renewables. From the article:

The poorest nations are learning from the mistakes of the richest nations.
Read this;

From the article;

Wealthy countries’ wishing to rid the world of crude oil, coal, and natural gas without replacements in mind is immoral since extreme shortages of the products manufactured from fossil fuels will result in the tragic loss of billions of lives from diseases, malnutrition, and weather-related events, both in the developed world and in developing economies.

No one in this thread said the Earth becoming greener is a bad thing.

I have a few questions.
  1. Carbon or carbon dioxide?
  2. Why do you think people consider either to be a problem?
  3. What evidence do you have that it is not a problem?

I see your Moore video, and I raise you with a Dr. Peter Hildebrand video.

And NASA is funded by the government. Under Biden, if they didn't hold to the government line, they'd lose funding.

Dr Patrick Moore is not.

Do you realize what 2 degrees in just 55 years means in the big picture? And you don't tell the whole story. Specifically, average temperatures in Boston have increased by 2.1 degrees Fahrenheit, and the state's average temperature has increased by 3.7 degrees since 1970. Scientists say that a total temperature rise of 3 degrees Celsius or 5.4 degrees Farenheight will lead to widespread and catastrophic consequences such as increasing extreme heat waves and droughts worldwide, more frequent extreme weather events and catastrophic sea level rise. We're already over half way to that number and that rise has happened just since the Industrial revolution. The speed of increase is rising every decade.

Yes, it;s true that in total the Earth is 20% "greener" than it was 20 years ago. This is due almost exclusively to China and India's super ambitious tree planting ventures and the intensive increase in agriculture in both countries. The important "greenery", the rain forests are nearly half what they once were. It is estimated that 20% of the Amazon rain forest has been decimated in just the past 50 years. I'm not sure of the point you are trying to make with your assertions, but I believe that when you cherry pick facts without telling the whole story, you run the risk of misrepresenting the big picture.
