  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Makes sense? Please, explain how it makes sense.
Here's how it works.

1 John 1:5-10 GNB
(5) Now the message that we have heard from his Son and announce is this: God is light, and there is no darkness at all in him.
(6) If, then, we say that we have fellowship with him, yet at the same time live in the darkness, we are lying both in our words and in our actions.
(7) But if we live in the light---just as he is in the light---then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from every sin.
(8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and there is no truth in us.
(9) But if we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is right: he will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing.
(10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make a liar out of God, and his word is not in us.
Read all the verses including the last two :)

God be with you as you read.

Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. (1 Corinthians 13:4-6 GNB)

Keeping score is one of many ways to abandon love for the brethren and thus to abandon love for God. Throw away that score book.

This is a great Scripture, and you make a good point.

When I find myself upset with someone, and especially if I make any move at all in my mind to count up grievances or the reason why I am upset with them, I am reminded of this verse.

We are commanded to love. Keeping a list, mental or otherwise, of the wrongs peoples people do against us, is not love, according to the Scriptural definition here. So .... we are commanded NOT to do it.

This has been very helpful in marriage. ;)

What's to review? My memory is fine. I was hoping you would actually explain how what he said made sense.
I don't see any part that doesn't make sense so if you are willing please tell me what part or parts do not make sense to you?

He said:
God keeps no record of our sins because we are repentant. If we seek forgiveness, the forgiveness is ours. But God does not forgive those who are not repentant.

As it relates to the passage you yourself referenced in the OP which states that love keeps no record of wrongs....none of it makes sense.

The OP is about people, didn't I explain that to you back around post #10?

People who if they love others will keep no record of their wrongs, just like God, correct? But now, you're saying God does keep a record of others wrongs, which effects not only our own record keeping, but the very character of God Himself.

Here's the deal. If love keeps no record of wrongs, but you say there are some for whom God does keep a record of their wrongs, then you are saying there are some whom God does not love...and likewise some we should not love as well. That's the only sensible conclusion a sensible person could come to.

It's time for me to go to Church to do some accounts and to pray and to ask God's mercy and forgiveness for the things I haven't done that I ought and for the things I have done that I ought not.

Did you make a record of all of those? Will God have those recorded as well?

nope, I didn't, that's why it is a general confession of sins. One doesn't need to get into details. Do you ever examine your conduct and conscience before God?

It doesn't mean I am sinless nor does it mean I would insult Jesus by asking Him for what I already have in Him.
So, if I have read your replies correctly, your position is that all of your sins, past, present, and future are already forgiven so you need never ask the Lord to forgive you now that you're saved, is that right?

By the way, this thread is about people keeping a record of wrongs be they doctrinal or practical ....
