  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's very doubtful you'll find any scientologists here. Scientologists are forbidden to read anything that might run contrary to their beliefs, which includes most of the internet.

Thanks for the 411!

Think about it? If you are forbidden to read something that may run contrary to the beliefs of the group you are associated with - something is truly wrong! I just don't understand how so many people get involved with all of these cults. :sigh:

Cult? I wouldn't even go that far... it's basically a acience fiction writer who decided one of the books he wrote is actually true, and created a church around it for morons to gather. I have a hard time believing that Hubbard could actually believe his second rate science fiction novels are true, it's much more likely that he's an extremely skilled con artist, since his church of scientology basically says "if you want to know the truth, just keep sending our church huge amounts of money" (their very twisted form of tithing I suppose). That's why only rich people like Tom Cruise can actually be scientologists.

Are there any Scientologists here? There are a few questions I would like to ask. I am starting a study on Scientology.

Thanks in advance.

if you have any questions about scientology ask away, i have put alot of time studying scientology and could answer most questions about it.

One thing ive seen posted false already here is that L.Ron Hubbard started the church, In fact there was no scientology to start with. He was selling his dianetics system and as it grew people who were using dianetics formed a group to discuss the system and talk about what things had happened to them.

At this stage there was no religious aspect to the group. It was purely a mental health type group that could fix your problems. After a while people started asking questions to L.Ron that werent contained in his dianetics system. He developed his religious theorys at this time and put them out to the dianetics users and called this new aspect "scientology" It caught on to the dienetics users and this scientology and dianetics became under the banner of scientology. Then they changed its name to the Church of Scientology.

The need for a L.Ron to start looking into a religious aspect came from people using dianetics and having "religious type experences" and asking for more.

Due to popular belief, there is no proof that L.Ron ever claimed that he would start a religion to get rich. Though who knows. I once read a quote from his son who said his dad was "the biggest conman on the planet". his son even had to change his name to get away from being tied to his dad.

and ways, any question feel free to ask away.

heres scientologys 2 main sites, though they dont really tell you a heck of alot about scientology unless you "pay" for the books :D They are mosly just all glitz.

http://www.dianetics.com/
http://www.scientology.org/

and to balance it out heres a anti scientology site

Go to wikipedia and look up L.Ron Hubbard... you'll find that the guy was complete scum. Also the doctrines of $cientology are so contemptable to any intelligent human being that it's suprising they're still around, although it I guess it does say a lot about people.

go to the scientology website. Take the quiz. It's hilarious. No matter how you resopnd, the "final analysis" will be somewhere betewwn "Your life is a wreck, scientology canm fix that" to "You are very happy and your life has great purpose. But why does it still feel like somethings missing?" I think they're hoping to turn the more gullible people to scientology because a gullible person might respond "You know what, now that this website mentions it, I do fel something missing all of a sudden..."

Even if Hubbard didn't actually start the church of scientology I gotta commend him just for taking advantage of a situation like that, and using it to make such a profit. Even if he is feeding off people's stupidity, you have to admit there's a certain amount of brilliance needed to pull off a religion like scientology. That or society's just starting to become dumber.

I've actually been inside a church of scientology for business purposes.

I was asked to do a dodgy (and probably borderline illegal) thing for them which we as a company declined to do.

I heard Hubbard started scientology on a bet with his friends in his university campus that he couldnt sucker morons in to make money with a false religion based on science fiction.

Most people do it mockingly, but there's actually a legitimate reason. The "Church" has been known to sue people who use their copyrighted name in a negative manner. I'm not sure how much luck they've had with it; as far as I can tell, they've been rebuffed to the tune of general derision in almost every country except the United States -- Germany even ruled that Scientology is not a religion at all. Anyway, whatever they're doing, I'm sure replacing the S with a $ won't stop them from doing it, but I guess it's the thought that counts.

Oh, and (here) and (here) is the reason why no scientologists are likely to be reading this thread.

Wow! That's good to know! Thanks for the 411!

Now I see it's not just the fact that the group censors info for it's own members so that they will not discover the truth that is binding them, but it also tries to censor what comes out of their group to the world so we can't see the abuse going on within the group. :sigh:
