  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I heard Hubbard started scientology on a bet with his friends in his university campus that he couldnt sucker morons in to make money with a false religion based on science fiction.

That's what science fiction writer Harlan Ellison says, if memory serves.

Cult? I wouldn't even go that far... it's basically a acience fiction writer who decided one of the books he wrote is actually true, and created a church around it for morons to gather. I have a hard time believing that Hubbard could actually believe his second rate science fiction novels are true, it's much more likely that he's an extremely skilled con artist, since his church of scientology basically says "if you want to know the truth, just keep sending our church huge amounts of money" (their very twisted form of tithing I suppose). That's why only rich people like Tom Cruise can actually be scientologists.
Don't they decide what is true themselve??
