  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's not fair, after all the original research has been published in the respected International Journal of Climatology. And it's good to see that finally some of the skeptics are willing to submit their views and evidence to peer review.

Better than most skeptics' posts here, who tend to rely on opinions of ex-tobacco PR consultants like Milloy...

The Arctic is screaming," said Mark Serreze, senior scientist at the government's snow and ice data

Another sermon on global warming,
The high Preist Al Gore warned us, if we didn't repent, the Earth would be forever changed.
Us Earthly sinners were not loud enough, SO:
If they remain quiet, the Artic shall cry out
.
Always thought that was Luke(19;40), but it apparently is Mark(1?).
Repent you demons of industry and convience, the Earth can not take anymore abuse. The Wraith of Mother Earth will decend upon us, and plagues and famine shall rain down on the lands.
All hail AL GORE and his followers, he shall save us all.

Plagues, famine, death by fire? Why does this sound like Revelations?

No, it actually claims there is a discrepancy between models and measurements at certain altitudes in the tropical troposphere. It also shows very good agreement between models and measurements for surface temperatures (which is what is being talked about here). Strangely enough Fox News forgot to mention the second bit.

On the other hand, a study in the International Journal of Climatology this week shows ground observatives do not come close to matching climate model predictions.

Typically biofeedback mechanisms in nature provide at least some mitigation. These have largely been ignored by these fly-by-night environmentalists. I will be curious to see how they explain themselves when the biosphere reacts to maintain equillibrium levels.

If all this ice is melting, how come New York and Florida aren't under water yet?

Because we don't live in a movie where everything must happen imediately for the story to be told in two hours flat.

No, MichaelFJF has a legitimate question.
It has nothing to do with 'a movie'. If I recall my college physics class - the effects of water displacement happen immediatey.

I've seen a few alarmists recently that say half of the arctic cap is gone already. Shouldn't something be under water by now?

Quit making sense, that isn't allowed in the face of "peer reviewed" scientific papers.

I don't really support the contentions of all the global warming alarmists that are clamoring now, but I do have to clarify something about the above statement.

Whether or not "something should be under water by now" or not would depend on what part of the polar cap was melting.

If it is icebergs or any ice shelf that is over water, the water level will not rise. It's elementary physics. You can try an experiment yourself by putting a few ice cubes in a glass of water, marking a line at the water level after putting the cubes in, and then waiting until they melt. The water level will stay the same.

However, if the ice that is melting is over land, then yes, the water level should rise.

Dontcha hate that!?!;)

Sigh.

Basic science.

Let me put it in easy terms. You have a full glass of water with an ice cube in it. The cube melts. Does the glass overflow? No, it doesn't. Check it at home if you don't believe me.

Now why is that? Its because the ice is already in the water, displacing the water. So when it melts there is no difference in the level of the water in the glass.

Are we following?

Assuming yes...

The Arctic ice cap is FLOATING ON THE ARCTIC OCEAN. If it melts entirely it will not raise worldwide ocean level by even a millimetre. Because its already in the ocean, frozen or not.

Ocean levels will rise when ice on land melts, because that was not in the ocean to begin with. Greenland and Antarctica. That's ice sitting on land. When that goes, sea levels will rise.

Back to the glass analogy. If you have a full glass of water and hold an icecube over it, when it melts the glass will indeed overflow. Another assertion you can test in your kitchen. That's how basic and obvious the science we're dealing with is here.

Peace.

I've been trying to tell global warming alarmists the same thing for years. Thanks for pointing out the OBVIOUS HARD SCIENCE of the matter.
