Here is a bikers depiction of Jesus Christ
Jesus12_zpssd1o0bvy.png

I got this image off a motorcycle gas tank whose tank color was copper. Looked real cool! A lot better than what some nerdy and egotistical scientist could do!

Yeah. Jesus isn't really an art project.

There is a fountain of virtue that flows from the presence of the Christ...

43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. - Luke 8

In which the image above and video below does justice!

And why does Christ have to appear as a Fabio look alike in order to be that fountain of virtue? What's wrong with him looking Semetic as he likely would have?

I have to say I don't know how that first post picture could be construed as insulting unless the poster has an issue with a certain race.

I tend to think the Christ of history looks like what was gleaned from the shroud of Turin. Ray Downing produced the latest experiments to draw out the image.

Jesus looked a lot like Al Pacino.

The OP picture is over a decade old, so why has this been brought up now? BTW if you look at the various painting of "Jesus" you will notice that Jesus is made to look like the peoples aroun him. So those of a European origin have his white, but those of an African origin have him as black. The OP is just stupid.

All cultures have historically drawn Jesus to look like themselves. It's their default perspective, so it's how their art reflects.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has Jesus and Mary looking like Black Ethiopians.

Greek Orthodox has Jesus looking like a Greek Philosopher.

The native Japanese Church drew Jesus in the Japanese style and had Him looking like a Japanese man.

There's nothing wrong with White people having Jesus look White when it's what we have historically done. It doesn't change whatever he really looked like, nor does it detract from it. It simply speaks to the native population in a way they understand. Ultimately, it does not impact the message that is being conveyed by the icon itself.

I don't disagree, but that doesn't explain why it would be insulting to represent Jesus as a person living in that time and place would likely have looked.

I'm curious if you saw all those posts asking how the OP image was insulting?
tulc(is also wondering) :)

For a detailed answer... I am a Lab Technician at a large factory and have worked at that place since I was eighteen. I have also gotten myself a couple of AAS degrees, and have decades of practical knowledge rolled up my sleeve. If E = mc2 then we can divide and conclude that...

Mass (m) = Energy (E/c2)

And there are three varieties...

Natural E/c2 - All mass is basically cooled plasma
Mental E/c2 - Our brain interprets E/c2 as a mathematical formula.
Spiritual E/c2 - E (motivation, warmth, love) / c2 (faith, hope, charity, joy)

To most people E=mc2 and the notation that m (mass) = E/c2 (energy) is only a mathematical formula. When I run a spectrometer I energize mass and when the mass gets excited it emits a wavelength of light in which I can measure. I have often wondered if this is not the same E/c2 that has went into the creation of the universe and that if God had not created the elements with unique wavelengths of light.

Also, as a chemical technician, I am taught to study the chemical properties of each element. Not only have I learned this, but I have experienced that as well. I have received mild doses of Cl- and SO2 vapors in which the elements pulled the H out of water, releasing O2, and then reacting to form HCl (hydrochloric acid) and HSO4 (sulfuric acid). At one time I opened a lid to a Chromic Acid destruct tank and breathed in the SO2 gas and thought it time to begin pushing up lilies.

There are properties that accompany the spiritual E/c2 is which I will call virtue. As virtue is not knowledge it cannot be taught. As virtue is not natural, it cannot be bought. It can only flow out of the un-hardened and virtuous heart.

The thing really annoying about the scientific image...

Natural E/c2 - Check... It is a image referring to mass
Intelligible E/c2 - Check... They used their intelligence to build the image
Spiritual E/c2... No good! The image did not reflect the grace, lovingkindness, and warmth of a benevolent savior.

But because virtue is not knowledge they will never be able to figure it out. This is my main worry about education, you can have it figured out and have a evil heart to go along with the knowledge. I would tell the scientist to their face that this work is blasphemous and an insult, a satanic attempt to belittle the Christ! The shroud of Turin, on the other hand, is something where I can see a spiritual virtue on the face of the blessed savior, and therefore believable.

Maybe, but we're discussing the historical Jesus. He only looked one way, and that way was much closer to the anthropologists' reconstruction than it was to artistic renderings. Depicting Him as He likely actually looked should not be offensive, as it seems to be to the OP, who has yet to adequately explain why it's insulting.

ETA: He did explain, finally, with some woo-woo nonsense about energy. I will be permanantly ignoring him for this bit:

I would tell the scientist to their face that this work is blasphemous and an insult, a satanic attempt to belittle the Christ!

There are some people who insist that modern Jews aren't the Jews of Biblical times. (I know, some people are insane). They are usually members of groups like Christian Identity or other racist "Christian" groups.
Some are secular. Shlomo Sand has argued that Judaism for much of its rabbinic history was a proselytising religion and so modern Ashkenazi Jews hold no genetic relationship to anyone living in first century Palestine.

Getting drunk, hanging out in bars, going to strip clubs...because "friends" do it is a big no-no. And yes, Ive known people who claim to be dedicated Christians who actually do just those things.
The idea of strip-clubs is sexist, women aren't objects, so I wouldn't go to one but drinking in a bar or club is not a moral issue, clubs are just expensive so the only reason to go to one is to dance, I would imagine.

Spiritual E/c2 - E (motivation, warmth, love) / c2 (faith, hope, charity, joy)
This is weird... This is part of the reason why I can understand why the Catholic Church has refused interpretation of its theology to laypersons...

I am working on my next video, in which I will include the image of Jesus Christ. This is the one I would go with. Complete with the depiction of the Christ, the Holy Spirit, a cross, a Bible, and rosary beads

Caucasian Jesus.:doh:Reminds me of that prayer scene in that Ricky Bobby movie.
