So our examples of what people looked like in the first century, is a picture painted in the 18th century, a shroud from the 13th century, and the picture of an actor from the 21st century? And somehow these all match?

I'm surprised we didn't include Sir Ian McKellen's Gandalf in that list:

How does my local church know what he looks like? There are no less than three historical inaccuracies on the average crucifix alone!

I was more interested in the "If you're at all interested in truth..." part.

Anyway, the long hair, it seems to me, should have been enough to track Jesus down.

I whipped out a ruler and did some measurements on the skull. There's no doubt in my mind that the man in OP's picture is a criminal. You only need to consult any book on phrenology to see that this man is a cattle rustler and an insurance fraudster. The shortness of his nose also suggests that he voted for Clinton in 1996.

Josephus was a Jew of the time and he had a long thin nose, as did Christ on the shroud of Turin...

Therefore comparing the two Christ looked more like the figure below, in which I used the eyes of Josephus and photoshopped them into the image of the Lord...

Let's try again....did you research the religious leanings of the anthropologists involved in this project? You clearly assumed they did not know Christ.

What I want to know is did you research their religious leanings or did you just assume they do not know Christ because you do not like this photo?

Personally, I fail to see how what He looked like has ANY bearing on Christianity, His sacrifice, His love, my walk with Christ, or anything for that matter. It is rather shallow to be concerned at all with what He looked like.

The insult, IMO, is to spend more than a second on His outward appearance. Our focus is to be on His teachings and His sacrifice.

So, facial features are determined not by race or ethnic or familial heritage, but by the time period in which one is born? Really? I don't think so.

Something you might find interesting is this article about first century Egyptian mummy portraits. In some cases, we have the actual skulls of the people depicted.

"Egyptologist Bob Brier and his team from Long Island University used a CT scanner to produce physical models of the mummies’ skulls which were then used by a crime artist to recreate their faces."

The results show that the portraits certainly resembled the individuals but were rather idealized depictions. One thing you will notice is that the noses were straightened and elongated, blurring their ethnicity. Here is an example from the article.

So, even if we had a portrait of Jesus for which he had sat in his lifetime, we would probably have a rather "airbrushed" version, giving us a Jesus more in tune with the popular ideal of beauty of his time than his actual appearance would have been.

"Science" does not. Forensic anthropologists do. There is a difference.

I'm curious what your objection is here? Do you think a Jewish man from Judea would have light brown, almost blonde, wavy hair, pale skin and blue eyes?
He looks exactly like what I would expect a Middle Eastern Rabbi to look like.
