Not according to Siskel & Ebert and other people I'v talked to that have seen the movie. I've heard that the ending is a "liberal christian" ending, and that the movie certainly isn't an attack on christianity as a whole, just on those people who take it too far.
Hmmm a "liberal Christian"?? I didn't know that was possible.....
But c'mon, as a Christian, how could you enjoy a movie in which Christ tells a kid to have sex with another to save him from homosexuality??? You can spin that anyway you like, but it's blasphemy.........

I am definately going to go see this movie. I went to a private Christian school and by the by - people there who were homosexual were counselled to get married and "everything will be set right by God." I laughed a lot at the trailer because I think I had seen or been in situations at the school almost exactly like that (for instance our school team was called "The Flame" because a) having people chant the name of an animal to support the team might be idolitry and b) because it was the flame from Pentacost) - I think it is good to poke fun at yourself and realize that sometimes as Christians we do go a little over the top. There is more to humor than in readers digest.

No worse than the satire of a South Park episode, and some of those have me rolling on the floor. Especially the one that had Pat Robertson asking for money to build their space cruiser. It was hilarious......

I think you misunderstood that part of the movie. It's my understanding that the girl who sleeps with the gay kid because she thinks god told her to do so. Obviously, it's incredibly unrealistic that the christian god would tell a girl to sleep with a gay guy like that. And that's the point. It pokes fun at people who take their religion too far.

I must admit, it looks like it might be funny and I'll probably see it, but I can see why people would be offended by it. I thought Dogma was a decent movie, but I might not have thought so if I was Catholic. Same here for Baptist/Non-denominational evangelicals. They already get made fun of regularly in movies, to have a movie solely dedicated to making fun of them may be a little over the top.

But then, I've been there, done that, and am more than ready to have a good laugh about it...

If you're a Christian and you go to see it, won't it show that you are actually not like that? I mean, imagine if you did actually act like how they depict the people in the movie, and then refuse to see it. That would be understandeable. But if hardcore Christian fanatacism is not what you're about, you could go see it with your friends and be like, "Wow that WAS ridiculous" rather than "how offensive, that's like someone I know" or something...You know what I mean?!

Yeah I agree it is unrealistic, and really just sad that we need to portray a Christian falling from grace, don't we have enough of that to contend with? Does anyone really think that this movie will do anything to bring people to Christ?

We saw it today. It wasn't offensive. It appeared to attempt to portray the characters' individual struggles as complex and multifaceted, as real life is. It addressed how when wrong things are done, they often occur not so much because of evil as because of stupidity. All the characters were shown with their good and bad aspects exposed, very fairly. I was glad to see an exploration of kids in a Christian school. This is an aspect of present day culture which is often ignored by the media. I saw similarities to "Mean Girls"-some of the same dynamics. Even showing in both movies the mean girls who ran the school as a gang of three. Another aspect shown was the situation of gay kids in homo-no-more programs, here with some similarities to "But I'm A Cheerleader". Mandy Moore was excellent as the head mean girl. Parents were shown as minor supporting characters, as they tend to be in youth culture. There was certainly nothing anti-Christian and though negative aspects of suburban fundamentalist groups were shown, affection for this culture was also present.

There are things that need to be addressed, are we any better if we bury our heads in the ground. If Christians took care of these things themselves, there would not be problems like this. We would have no Pat Robertsons running around.

I think it is good to poke fun at yourself and realize that sometimes as Christians we do go a little over the top.
But the movie makers haven't poked fun at themselves. They've poked fun at a group which they are not a part of.

If you're a Christian and you go to see it, won't it show that you are actually not like that?
If you're a thief and you go see a move that makes fun of thieves, does it show you are actually not like that?

No worse than the satire of a South Park episode, and some of those have me rolling on the floor. Especially the one that had Pat Robertson asking for money to build their space cruiser. It was hilarious......
Since when did something being funny become a justification for whether or not it is right? If I kill your friend, but do it in a way that's really funny--I mean, you're just rolling on the floor it's so funny--does that make it somehow less wrong? How about if it's not funny to you (he is your friend after all) but it is to everyone else watching?

Just 'cause something's fun doesn't mean it's right, people. If you're a Christian and you want to see the movie, justify it with something a little more defensible and logical.

That said, I'll not watch the movie because it seems like just another of the stupid high-school flicks.

I thought the movie made fun of hypocrites and people who believed without questioning anything, not Christians. Making claims that the movie is Anti-Christian is not fair unless you have seen it. Judging a movie from one scene taken out of context is not fair. Imagine taking a verse from the bible out of context. Does anyone else agree with me?

"It was so crazy to see 14-year-olds so passionate about anything that didn't have to do with Britney Spears!" - Saved! star MacCaulay Culkin, on attending a Christian rock concert last year with 40,000 fans.

Someone at work showed me this. I know Saved! is quite the controversial film that parodies Catholic School, but I did think it was interesting that

A.) He said this....it was printed in People - quite cool!
B). That he apparently attends Christian rock concerts?

I still won't see the movie....but I didn't see Dogma either. Bruce Almighty was pretty tame & had a good message from "God" (Morgan Freeman) at the end, despite Jim Carrey's silliness.

I'm sure God has a sense of humor, but I've heard and seen enough about Saved! where it could also be a little over the top (and offensive) to all Christians, not just Catholics.

couple of problems here. 1st the movie Saved! is about a Baptist High School(not catholic). 2nd Culkin was at the concert to research the role for the movie. He commented on how people at the concert were excited to see him and assumed that he was a christian. He seemed to imply that he was not.

I honestly feel the movie is blasphemous and rude. I haven't seen the movie but I did read a review of it at http://www.christiananswers.net a while back. To me it is nothing but another attempt by the media to make fun of Christians and to make them look bad. I saw an advertisement on tv yesterday for it but I only saw the end of it. Even from just those few seconds I know that I do not want to support this movie by spending any money to buy/rent/go to the theator to see it.

All you have to do is watch the 700 club, and that gives people all the ammunition they need...

Can't agree there. But I do think it's best to hear from more than one source before deciding about a film. I don't need to experience everything before making statements about it. That's called judgement. You analyze based on what you know, and then you make a decision. The people who have seen a film are of course better positioned to talk about it, but those who have weighed the evidence and chosen not to see it are under no compulsion to therefore keep silent about the film.

I watched all the clips for this movie. I really don't see how this movie is making fun of Christianity. I do however know too many Christians like the kind this movie is making fun of.

Remember: Just because something makes fun of a certain type of Christian does not mean it is making fun of Christianity as a whole.

I think every Christian should exam themsevles and make sure they are not like the ones played in this movie. If you don't believe you are then what are you worried about?

I have always believed that every idea comes from some truth. This is obviously how some people see certain Christians, and I refuse to believe people just pulled this idea out of thin air.

I have to agree with the people that have been saying that you cannot really judge something unless you at least have a good idea of what it is you are judging. Reading one review from a bias source is NOT a "good idea."

If your going to make a big deal out of something, you are NOT going to hurt the cause but help it. You are going to make more people want to go out and see this movie to see if they think you were right or not. If peolpe don't agree with you then they will end up taking friends to see it, and you have just helped the movie more than you realized.

I read I review of the movie by an atheist. He thought that the movie was so bad that the director shamed all atheists. He said it wasn't funny, but would be forgivable if it had one good joke, and showed the kind of extremeism in the filmmaker that he went out to attack.
So it would seem it is not an attack on extremism, but an attack on Christianity.
