Saudi Clerics Advocate Adult Breast-Feeding

You can't make this stuff up......

(June 5) -- Women in Saudi Arabia should give their breast milk to male colleagues and acquaintances in order to avoid breaking strict Islamic law forbidding mixing between the sexes, two powerful Saudi clerics have said. They are at odds, however, over precisely how the milk should be conveyed.

While it is a silly thing...it sounds like they are saying mothers should pump their breast milk and give it to an adult male to use it to feed their male babies. That would avoid physical contact between the mother and the male son.

Very sad; as the mother of two sons, I can't imagine missing out on the bonding provided by nursing, but not advocating that adult males consume the breastmilk.

One guy, Ezzat Attiya, proposed this and he was expelled from the university afterwards. Now, another cleric, Al Obeikan, just reproposed it.

Saudi Arabian women with no male relatives actually have a serious problem because there are many things they are not allowed to do for themselves that only a male relative can do for them. This proposal is a way around that restriction - have a non-relative become a relative by way of breast milk.

It was nowhere proposed that the grown male directly breastfeed - that's just people being snarky. The proposal is actually a compassionate one while adhering strictly to sharia.

Of course, the restrictions should just be dropped, but try telling any fundamentalist society such a thing and you'll get a rant about feminazis.

Well, first you have the woman lie face-down on a table with a hole cut in it; then you get a bucket and put it under the table at the correct spot, and then you....ah......

Never mind. Maybe we just better stick with Elsie the Cow.

Thank you for the explanation :)
