Actually, Dio is an admitted Satanist.
Where did you get this idea from? I've never heard him (Dio) say he is a Satanist? Sure you have'nt got him confused with someone else?

I was thinking the same thing. I've been a Sabbath/Dio fan for decades literally, and this is the first time I've heard that. That information is definately wrong.

Ronnie James Dio doesn't believe in God and doesn't believe in the Devil. If you don't acknowledge the Devil, you can't be a Satanist.

The only problem I see with Black Sabbath is the name reference to the Black Mass or Black Sabbath ceremony, and to deny God is to align yourself with Satan intentionally or not. The accounts of what is done during a Black Mass or Sabbath unfit for description here. To use the name of such a practice is certainly worth some puzzlement.

Most Satanists don't aknowledge "the devil". Most Satanists are rationalists or pagans whom see the fictional Satan as a positive symbol, and are humanists whom worship themselves and life itself.

Though there are theistic branches of Satanism. But even nost of these are not worship of the christian devil.

Some Satanists are actually not open publicly, nor feel the need to be. It's their own private source of inspiration or self-empowerment. Some are open. It depends. Sometimes the least likely people are Satanists and you'd never have known it by looking at them or even knowing them as aquatances. Again, it really depends.
But unless they are open about it a person can't possibly say someone is a Satanist.

So is it concievable that Dio is a modern Satanist? Sure, it is. But I have never heard him say so. I don't know what he is. I presume by his actions and his way of speech, etc, that he is a rationalist, but a Satanist...who knows. But I would like to know where the indiovidual whom said he is got his/her info.

In the short: not as many as you'd expect, little less hear of under normal circumstances. I'd wager that 99.99% of bands that receive mainstream notoriety for Satanism are doing it purely for shock. Because while the mainstream treats the subject as something laughable and cliché, they wouldn't touch bands that really are Satanist* with a hundred-yard pole. They play up the whole perceived metal image of being the devil's music and the bands take it tongue firmly planted in cheek.

*For the purposes of this conversation, Satanist defined by the popular idea surrounding it as something truly malicious and evil, not necessarily movements/people which use a different definition of Satanism.

Agreed.

And regarding what's been said about Slayer, Bob Larsen once went on tour with the band with the intention of proving they were Satanists, but his conclusion after it was over with was that they were about as Satanic as his grandmother.

People used to (and many still do) say that Iron Maiden is Satanic. However, if you read many of their lyrics, especially those from The X-Factor, (Sign of the Cross and Judgement of Heaven) it definitely seems otherwise.

Not to mention that Nicko McBrain is a devout Christian.

Where are the sources that say all these people or bands are Satanist? For instance folk keep saying that Ronnie James Dio is an admitted Satanist without giving a source...they probably think the \m/ symbol is 'Sataaaaannnnist' when in fact it is an old gesture that was used to ward of the Evil eye (espacially common in Romance countries like Italy), hence it being featured in Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' ("all made the sign of the cross and pointed two fingers towards me."). It eventually became a sign that a man is a Cuckold however!

You can tell by their fruits. If the band members are doing drugs and making themselves sick with their behavior or even dies from their behavior, then they are perhaps not satanic, but they aren't good either.

Man, i though you really knew what you were talking about, until you said slayer.

For clarity's sake, slayer adopted a satanic appearance (lyric and music wise) for shock purposes, simple as that.

Here's a list of downright satanic bands

Marduk
Emperor
Darkthrone
Dark Funeral
Mayhem
Immortal
Carpathian Forest
(i.e. many black metal bands)

as for stuff like cradle of filth and possibly slipknot, i think they adopt the satanic image (whether or not its there, people still think so) to further imbue that they're so 'dark'...bleh...

in fact, just to help

basically all the norwegian black metalers are, I would say all the "satanic" band from the usa just whored them selves to that image for $ like so many others, but the norwegians have burned churches, murdered christians, and openly worship him on stage and off

Immortal aren't satanic, nor have they ever claimed to be.
EDIT: They aren't even anti-Christian.
I'll give you the rest though :p

can someone tell me if rob zombie is or not satanic? what about slipknot or korn?

I don't know about Zombie I think he's just into horror stuff.

As far as Slipknot and Korn they are just crappy nu metal bands nothing really threatening but I wouldn't even bother with them just because they're awful and overrated.

JMHO though.

I used to listen to Slayer, CCorpse, a ton of old school death metal, like obituary, Death, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Celtic Frost, listened to Sabath, ect and Manson. While these individual people may not be satan worshipers and may even do it for joke or shock or whatever you wanna call it, the message is messed up. I have seen Slayer in concert as well as some other death metal bands. I used to say to myself i just like the music I don't pay attention to the lyrics but once you except Jesus as your savior, you just don't feel like listening to this crap even if the beat and music sounds good. To me music is about a feeling and speaks to me, why would anyone want to listen to a slayer song like God hates us all?

also I have two kids and there is no way in hell i would ever want them to listen to this type of music even though I did at one time.

Does it really matter whether these people worship the devil or not? no real person that believes in god would produce music that serves Satan and calls themselves Christian, if they do they have a twisted way of thinking. You cant serve Satan and God. Sorry to rant.

yeha ive been a BIG fan of Doom/Sludge/Black metal for years, but i just did a major clean out and got rid of any overtly dark bands. This means i had to get rid of Electric Wizard and Deathspell Omega, but I still have plenty of super heavy music to listen to that isnt necessarily evil. If any recently converted Black Metal fans need non-satanic black metal to listen to, please check out Washington's Wolves In The Throne Room. Their lyrics are not satanic at all, more cosmic/ earth oriented, like this beautiful line"I will lay down my bones among the rocks and roots of the deepest hollow next to the streambed...The quiet hum of the earth's dreaming is my new song...When I awake, the world will be born anew"... so yeah , not evil at all, and as a poet myself they hit me right in the chest. good stuff!

So long as you don't equate hard and dark music with satanism. There are black, death, doom and other metal subgenre with clear Christian messages.
Antestor, Extol, Horde...
If you can get a hold of an original edition of this:
Horde.jpg
you can make a hefty sum from the Christian black community. It is highly sought after.
