  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is a good fun thread. People may not know but Creedence song "Midnight Special" is a cover of Lead belly back in the 1930's. He also wrote 'House of the rising son' covered by The Animals and 'Black Betty' I think covered by Ram Jam from memory.

People probably know 'House of the rising son' by the Animals. Here is Lead Belly's version.

As you can see they are very different.

I just remembered that the song "In the Pines" covered by Nirvana was of unknown origin from the 1870's. But Bill Monroe and Lead Belly covered the song in the 40's. Here is Bill Monroe's and Kurt Cobain's version.

Though Cobain captures Lead belly better with his version of modern blues roots. Thats until he takes it to another level lol.

Its called 'Where did you sleep last night'. But its the same song 'In the Pines'.

Sorry I could go on. I love music and especially trivia lol. Another couple that came to mind and in some ways is the best of songs that have been covered into new and different songs from the originals.

That iis IMO the Bee Gees and Carol King. But also Kings partner Gerry Goffin (Goffin and King).

When you consider songs like "Islands in the stream" (Parton/Rogers), "Chain reaction" (Diana Ross), "Heart breaker" (Dion Warwick), "Grease is the word" covered by Frankie Valli and "Stayin' Alive" (Lizzo & Scary Pockets) which was a Hip Hop hit are just an example of how many BG songs have been covered into different songs.

Goffin and King songs covered include: Aretha Franklin’s take on "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", James Taylor's version of "You've Got a Friend" "The Loco-Motion" - covered by Grand Funk Railroad and later Kylie Minogue, "I'm Into Something Good" - famously covered by Herman's Hermits and "Take Good Care of My Baby" - originally by Bobby Vee and later covered by The Beatles. To name some examples.
