  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I doubt we'll torture him, that is definetely illegal. We didn't even torture the the NAZI officers. There is no doubt that Saddam is a prisoner of war, the war was started so we could take him prisoner. I'm sure lots of people would like their 5 minutes in the shed with him but we still have to conduct this in a civilized manner.

I am so happy we captured him alive instead dead. This is indeed very symbolic.

The thing I was wondering thou, seems like everyone in Iraq has a AK47 or some other guns, they could've easily gang up on his Republican Guard you know. Even his military troops hadn't been too particularly loyal.

ahhh.. it was psychological, people believed that him and his military were all knowing.. Im more interested about Afghanistan where 10,000 hard core fanatics held 20 million people hostage. His picture is everywhere in Baghdad, even in every room at the airport.

I wouldn't be surprised if they make a public spectacle out of it. He's gonna swing one way or another, I say we let the new Iraqi government take care of the trial and execution. As odd as it may sound that would probabbly help them gain credibility, thus helping us out.

Now that I think about it odds are we aren't going to get any info out of him. He knows he's screwed and will be silent just to spite us.

Trial will be mostly for show. His crimes were committed in Iraq so it would make sense to try him there. Also, like I said, it would help the new governments popularity if they were the ones to do it. Will probabbly be a short trial, not even OJ's dream team could save Saddam now.

Iraqis said Baghdad will most likely be a lot safer now, so does other parts of the coutry. But he also said Saddam's home town might have a backlash.
One analyst had an interesting take. Said that this may fire up the resistance and increase attacks on US soldiers to show us that they are still going strong.

For once we are in total agreement milkman.
I don't think anybody ever disagreed about Saddam being an SOB. My problems are with the reasons given for war, various legal issues, and the precedence it sets.

However we are there, nothing can change that now, so gotta try and make the best of it from here on out.

Senior military officials had some concerns about the source and the motivation of the intelligence that leads to his capture. Hope that's just cautious suspicion. But I think it'll be a lot better now. I think the war is over.
Yeah, so many theories out right now. I assume you're watching CNN because that's where I just heard something similar. Something about how their are different factions within the resistance, one of them betrayed Saddam, and there may be a hidden power struggle. Kinda flakey though, haven't heard much about it until 5 minutes ago.

Anyone still fighting must be really hard hard loyalists or outside source. But think even for them knows it's hopeless cause now, they had just lost all supports from any regular Iraqis, I think. At best they will try a desperate symbolic attacks but I think the total number will definitly grealy decrese.
