I doubt it was ever loyalist really, intelligence says it's loyalist shelling out the cash, but that it is mercinaries and foreign terrorist who are doing the shooting.. I doubt any common folks in Iraq wanted to fight for Saddam. Baghdad is the biggest strong hold and they were dancing in the streets when we came in and then again today.

I really believe some of the regular Iraqis were fighting because we got them mad, and they wanted to revenge.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried something big. Problem is we don't know an awful lot about them. Foriegn fighters probabbly won't care. People who are anti US won't care. This will probabbly only affect the loyalists like you said, especially considering that he went down without a fight.

I believe regular anti-US people will do care. This is highly symbolic. Sure they might like all the sudden help us, but now I believe everything will go well. Best thing we can do now is to hire all the security forces who quited because of low pays. They were getting $6 a day, we should easily double or triple the money and HIRE THEM BACK!! Let everyone maintain the securities together.

They weren't even getting 6$ a day, something like 60$ a month, or about 2$ a day. I think the proposed pay raise would elevate them up to 6$ a day.

They just made an announcement that it is going to be a public holiday. Good.

Blah, under Saddam soldiers were paid on average 2.75 a month in a country where the average salary is $300 a year. Under the CPA they were being paid a low of $60 and an over all average of $100 a month. Which is four times higher than the standard of living in Iraq. I am glad free speech has taken hold though, go never thought I would say this, but go unions. And God Bless America.
