Sabbath?

We see rest as not working. But for the ancients a god was at rest when he/she had come to their temple. All was prepared and in place for them to take up their abode.

Genesis (and elsewhere in Scripture) tells us that God had completed hi swork, set up humanity as regents over creation, all was in place and well, and so God now had everything as intended.

When we apply that concept of rest to the passage in Hebrews in then refers to a finished act of salvation whereby we are once again restored into Divine fellowship in his reign here on earth, expressed as 'the kingdom of God'. There is to be a full outworking of that rest when Jesus returns, but that is based on what His life, death and resurrection has already achieved.

Yes; that is human. Not so with God though. For God, THIS was the ultimate of his Rest:

“That God hath made that same Jesus whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. … This Jesus hath God RAISED UP … having loosed the pains of death … THEREFORE being by the right hand of God EXALTED and having RECEIVED of the Father the Promise…” “DECLARED : The Son of God with Power according to the Spirit of holiness by the RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD”; “That ye may know WHAT is THE EXCEEDING GREATNESS OF GOD’S POWER to us-ward who believe according to the working of His Mighty Power WHICH He WROUGHT (=DID+RESTED) IN CHRIST WHEN HE RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD AND SET HIM AT HIS OWN RIGHT HAND IN HEAVENLY MAJESTY.”

“God the Seventh Day from ALL His WORKS RESTED.” “God the Seventh Day FINISHED all the works He had created.” HERE : “IN CHRIST”! IN CHRIST in exaltation to God’s Own Right Hand in heavenly GLORY and resurrection from the dead. As Klaas Schilder has said, “in the FULL FELLOWSHIP OF THE TRINITY”! Sela. Rest. And as Isaiah prophesied, “HAVING RESTED-UP HIS NAME IS THE HOLIEST PLACE.” (57:15)

Know “WHAT” God’s “Rest” is and learn what God’s ‘rest’ “on the Seventh Day Sabbath : OF THE LORD GOD”, meant. It meant the ULTIMATE OF ALL GOD’S WORKS.

This to me seems to be the Sixth Day’s work of God— not yet the Rest of God of the Seventh Day. God had completed his work, set up humanity as regents over creation, all was in place and well, and so God now had everything as intended … and ere nightfall, man and wife entered into sin and the kingdom of darkness….

“And they heard the VOICE of the LORD God (Christ the WORD) walking in the garden in the cool of the day (late on the Sixth Day and Adam and his wife HID themselves FROM the presence of the LORD God.”

“Then the LORD God CALLED (through Christ) unto man…” in grace, love and mercy as it had become the Seventh Day and Sabbath of the LORD God. What followed in Genesis 3 is the history of Salvation in and through Jesus Christ in type and figure : the history of the Seventh Day Sabbath of the LORD God.

Hebrews 3:17 asks about the FIRST man and woman, “With whom was God grieved … who had (first) sinned? … AND TO WHOM sware God that they should not enter into His Rest (which is Christ) but TO THEM WHO (first) believed not?” (Salvation is by faith in Christ only.) — Adam and Eve! This is God’s first Promise of the Sin-Bearer and his work of the Seventh Day of his creating and FINISHING of “all things that therein is”.

The only time the Sabbath was decreed was under the Mosaic covenant. That covenant has been replaced, as was the covenant with Abraham involving circumcision,which also no longer applies to Christians.

sabbath was the test before the decree on mount sinai...

I was thinking of when I was teenager, and couldn't wait to be "free" from my parents' household rules. It was a rude awakening to find out that life wasn't easy. I long for the days when I had no worries and just had to do what they said to do. Shouldn't it be this way with Believers? But, NO...we want to FREE from His instructions! Go on out there, then. You'll wish you were back home, with your Father, someday!

The only time the Sabbath was decreed by human agency and written on stones was under the Mosaic covenant. That covenant has been replaced, and no longer applies to Christians. Forever! Because that covenant has been replaced by The Word of God Raised from the dead eternally, "On the Sabbath Day in its FULLNESS being in the light of day beginning to incline towards the First Day of the week", "For God thus concerning the Seventh Day spake : And God the Seventh Day from all his works RESTED" --- in that He through Jesus Christ by resurrection from the dead, “sanctified the Seventh Day and blessed it” in that He “FINISHED”— HAVING “REVIVED” ON IT. The Seventh Day Sabbath thus has been transformed, yea, recreated, into “The Lords Day”, and made sign of the New and Eternal Covenant of Grace.

I'm sure glad I have the mind of Christ and that He is resting in me and I in Him

Where is His rest you ask?

(Isa 66:1) Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

Here it is

(Isa 66:2) For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

(Act 7:48) Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,

We are that TEMPLE HOUSE where the Lord rests!

(1Co 3:16) Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Those with the finite mind can't see it of course, nor can they enter into His Rest as Christians ARE in His Rest.
