  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pharisee Shaul circumcised Timothy.

Ive read enough of your post to know that you know better than that....Timothy's mother was jewish making Timothy Jewish so that is not proselyting a Gentile but instead doing what is found in the law for a Jew. and I believe you also know that both the Jerusalem Council and the teachings of Paul put Gentiles under the seven laws of Noah but not under the Mosaic law.

So, Crib, are you saying that we are obligated to obey the Noahide laws?
My agreement with Rick357 was that Timothy was circumcised because his mother was Jewish.

Having studied with Rabis I am also aware that they teach; that foriegners and visitors of the world as suppose to keep the Noahide law vs the 613 misvot passed down from God for them to keep. So, Sabbath arguments about whom and when sabbath was given is a no brainer for those who know Jewish history. It's kinda shameful how people try to steal their identity and an exclussive covenant between them and God.;)
The Seven Laws of Noah

According to traditional Judaism, G-d gave Noah and his family seven commandments to observe when he saved them from the flood. These commandments, referred to as the Noahic or Noahide commandments, are inferred from Genesis Ch. 9, and are as follows: 1) to establish courts of justice; 2) not to commit blasphemy; 3) not to commit idolatry; 4) not to commit incest and adultery; 5) not to commit bloodshed; 6) not to commit robbery; and 7) not to eat flesh cut from a living animal. These commandments are fairly simple and straightforward, and most of them are recognized by most of the world as sound moral principles. Any non-Jew who follows these laws has a place in the world to come.
The Noahic commandments are binding on all people, because all people are descended from Noah and his family. The 613 mitzvot of the Torah, on the other hand, are only binding on the descendants of those who accepted the commandments at Sinai and upon those who take on the yoke of the commandments voluntarily (by conversion). In addition, the Noahic commandments are applied more leniently to non-Jews than the corresponding commandments are to Jews, because non-Jews do not have the benefit of Oral Torah to guide them in interpreting the laws. For example, worshipping G-d in the form of a man would constitute idolatry for a Jew; however, according to some sources, the Christian worship of Jesus does not constitute idolatry for non-Jews.

I'd heard of the Noahide laws of course. All nice, sensible laws. I especially like the one about not eating meat from a living animal.

You do know that Jesus told Israel that He would take the Kingdom of God from them, and give it to people more worthy than them?

Of course, this is a temporary thing, I believe...

But you do know that, right?

There would be a differance between what I am saying and how a rabbi would see it. A rabbi would say if I kept Noah and He kept Moses then we both have part in resurection....I would agree except for the problem of lawless Adamic nature in both of us means we will not keep these laws. Noah says dont be sexually immoral...Moses gives a list of what immoral is...Jesus says if I lust I am guilty.Noah say I have ideals to perform to...Moses says I have statutes...Jesus says the only way to do right is to become right.this can only be done when me as Adam is crucified in christ and his spirit lives in and through me both to will and to do so that it is no longer I but him through me.
So the rabbi sees these laws of Noah and Moses as a way that both Jew and gentile do not need Jesus...I see them as standerds that show me that in myself I am undone...and drive me to Christ.
As to why I would mention them sometimes believsrs get so caught up in how Moses does not apply to them they forget that Paul said in more than one place "those who do such things shall not enter the kingdom of heaven"...so why the shortened list by the council at Jerusalem...because they were adressing believers who had accepted christ....murder...theft...idolatry...blasphamy are non starters

You do know that he said he would come to us to provoke jealousy in them so they would be gathered.

Really? You misunderstand the facts in this too. What God said to all humanity at that time was: Eat all animal but not with the blood in it Gen 9:3
Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
Gen 9:4
But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. ( You qualify as a elder in SDA;))

Thank you...Im still learning text lingo as I tend to be a answer a text with a call guy....my children are reversed and text to return a call
oy vey, totally understand. My son does this too. The yonger generation is completely anti-social. They think communications between bits is the norm. They have reduced life to 1's and 0's and have no emotions outside of self gratification. Forgive me, I'm rasing 3 children right now..... :) :lost:

Reminds me of another Jewish tradition. Not being allowed to teach others unless you have already walked a mile in their shoes. Usually you don't become a rabbi 'teacher of the Word of God' until you have children. Sad how many unqualified children are attempting to teach those who have earned their stripes. Of which i'm earning as we speak.
