Exodus
20.8:Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day.
I will keep this short but I would like to know how you personally keep Sabbath, what you regard as Holy and what you would not find to be appropriate. I won't get in to the debate regarding the Saturday/Sunday issue as it's all quite peripheral to me but I do acknowledge the importance of a rest day so I would love to get your thoughts on it.
If I may be a bit forward and straight at the beginning? There is no choosing of ones own day. That is setting oneself above God and setting up ones own righteousness, this is exactly what Satan has done:
My tongue shall speak of thy word: for
all thy commandments [are] righteousness. Psalms 119:172
yet satan said, "I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will be like the most High." Isaiah 14:14
The Most High is seen directly in the 4th Commandment, by name:
For [in] six days
the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:11
It is impossible to keep any other day as the Sabbath, for the Commandment does
not say that the "Sabbath" is merely "on" the 7th day, as if it could be altered, but the commandment directly says that the "7th Day" is itself the Sabbath:
"the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God", and so it is impossible to keep any other day as the Sabbath, while knowing what the 4th Commandment says, so unless it is truly the 7th day that is kept holy, it will not really matter what is presented. Even by removing the word
[is], since it is not in the Hebrew, the case is even stronger, "the 7th day the Sabbath" notice also specifically,
"of the Lord thy God". It is His.
If it is "peripheral" then why bother at all? It is either specific or it isn't.
"...
How long halt ye between two opinions?
if the LORD [be] God, follow him: but if Baal, [then] follow him...." 1 Kings 18:21;p
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24
He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. Luke 11:23
Please consider these things.
However, to answer the main question, how do we keep the sabbath holy...
We cease from common work and we can go to church [convcation; Leviticus 23:3] on Sabbath [Luke 4:16; Acts 17:2], and read the scriptures [Acts 15:21], sing with the congregation in hymns and psalms and spiritual songs [Psalms 100:2; Colossians 3;16], give heed to the Word, fellowship, potluck, walk in nature [Mark 2:23; Luke 6:1], share and discuss the Word, pray, etc... and number of things that we may do in spending time with the Lord Jesus Christ on His Holy Day. These things are blessed especially upon this day.
