Its very easy once we have the love in our heart, supposed someone very dear to you that you had just fallen in love with had to go off for a bit, left you a note to please accept and share with his/her family, your love as if they were your own family and give him/her a call once a week to share your love.......I am sure you can think and compare of all the things you can do to share love with the family (are they sick, cold, hungry, want to fellowship, etc..) and to remember to communicate to him/her your love once to a week.......

Anything that draws one closer to God is a productive Sabbath activity. Anything that pulls one farther from Him is unproductive.
Our goal is to have a closer walk with Him, is it not?

As for me and my house, we will graze in the wheat fields with Him; pull the ox out of the ditch with Him; study the Word with Him (and through Him); pray, eat, sleep and do all to the glory of building relationship with Him.

On the Sabbath, Adventists rest from our everyday work and take a whole day to focus on our relationship with God and our relationships with other people. I think you'll find that many Adventists disagree about whether certain specific activities should be restricted on Sabbath. I believe that we should leave those decisions between a person and God. The principles behind Sabbath-keeping are the same principles behind all of the other commandments: love for God and love for our neighbors. The Sabbath is meant to be a joyful experience of spending time with God, not a bunch of legalistic dos and don'ts.

What is done and not done on the Sabbath?

The idea is that the sabbath is a day dedicated to the Lord. When you fall in the love with a person and set a date with him, you will not do your normal chores during that time, right?

The rule is very simple: do only those things that are necessary to be done on Sabbath. For everything else, do them on the other days.

This explains it pretty well. In my personal life I choose not to do anything. I don't answer the phone nor do i watch TV or check the mail. These things are not restricted, but I choose to not do them because it ruins my day. I've been doing it for 6 years now and everytime the Sabbath comes around, I feel this peace inside. I may not look foward to going to church haha but I look foward to the Sabbath, because it is the one day that I can actually relax and take a day off from our daily stress. Again there is nothing that says what you can and can't do on the Sabbath, except for the Bible, that tells you not to do any work, but other than work is all ones opinion and this is how I choose to have my Sabbath and I thank God everyday for giving it to me...correction us.

Curious...

If it's not about do's and don't at all, then why were people killed for what they did on the day?

How do you keep the day HOLY?

Should it be kept any different today than when it was given to Israel?

If so, how? What changed?

If not, do Adventist's keep it exactly as it was given?

In different parts of the globe different things are or seem to be acceptable to that group of SDA's.

We do not play sport on Sabbath here. I have heard that in parts of Europe that they do play around with sports on Sabbath afternoon.

Of that is true then I do not agree with it.

Then there is the issue of getting "wet" (swimming).

I do not but some do. I can see where the problem is with that.

I will go out into nature and take the kids for a walk which is harder work that going to the beach and going for a swim.

It is not a matter of what you can do or not do but it is your relationship to Jeuss Christ that counts.

When that is right the rest will fall into place.

But how do SDA's keep the Sabbath HOLY in the way it was commanded to Israel?

If you are referring to some of the 610 laws they were very restrictive and I don't think there are any Adventist keeping the Sabbath that way now. Clearly this was not the way it was supposed to be kept or Christ wouldn't have violated some of these rules when He was here on earth. If you look at the incidences of the death penalty being inacted for breaking the Sabbath it was in violation of clear instructions from Moses as to what was expected at that time. I think Christ is our best example for the way the Sabbath is to be kept. He went about doing good on the Sabbath and His custom was to go and worship in the synagog ( church ). Since we know Christ never sinned then we have to evaluate the way we see and apply the laws given to Israel pertaining to the Sabbath.

God Bless

Well, that's good to hear that it's left open to each person's application and interpretation and that it's not something so easy to nail down as "Do not commit murder", or "Do not steal". It kind of removes the pressure of having to convince people that they have to keep it the way God gave it. It's much easier that way, since they can decide for themselves.

Thanks for sharing Jim.

I'd say it's a day to encounter him and experance what he is about.
"Rember the sabbath day to keep it HOLY" holiness can only be experianced by an encounter with God and you can only keep it. not manurafacture it. That means we can mess it up. Another words we WILL automatically experiance God if we just don't wreck the experiance.
