getting faster isn't really easy, i don't enjoy speed sessions a great deal, but they can deliver the goods if done right.
distance i find much more relaxing, the running bit is almost subconcious, just let your brain unwind itself! so long as you're relaxed, building up slowly and running within your ability (which will improve!) you should start to feel the benefit.
i need a specific goal (which i always have these days) to generate any kind of drive, which you need to get out of bed before 6 for a long run!

2 years ago i went along to our club swim sessions and could barely drag myself 25m (the coach was worried i wouldnt make it back from the other end!). that was september, the following march i did my first triathlon. i hate swimming, always have, still do, have a phobia of water... but i know i can do it now so there's hope for anyone! (especially a nipper)
