This poll is to decide whether or not to add language to the wiki regarding guidelines for the main Adventist forum.

Here is the proposed addition:

1.1 This is a non-debate area, reserved for fellowship and questions. Questions on doctrines and beliefs can be asked in the Main SDA Forum. Questions that are likely to lead to debate should be asked in the Debate/Discussion Sub-forum.

1.2 To avoid confusion and debate, questions posed in the Main SDA Forum will generally be directed to official church statements such as the Fundamental Beliefs. This is to provide clear and consistent answers to questions without provoking debate.

According to our wiki rules formation guidelines voted previously, this will be a public poll and will last for four days. Only Adventists who joined the forums before July 4, including some regulars who bear other icons may participate.

Please check the wiki discussion here for further rules issues coming up soon. We need input from everyone.

Yeah I haven't been able to get in there until now for a bit, but I agree an FSB system as we have been discussing in other threads would work fine. I will add mycomments when I get a chance, and try to compile the suggestions. At the moment I am on a lousy computer :(

good we are finally getting some where good poll.

Might I say that, there should be some kind of guide line for deciding when an "inquiry" moves to a discussion and there for must be moved off the 'main page"

a. Is it the number of post ?
b. the content ?
c. how hostel ?
d. how many times can a person post a thread in the "main forum" before they are a "regular"

there should be "reprimand", but at some point a a question my require deeper discussion, at which point it may need to move. where is that point?

The way Tall worded the proposal gives the VISITOR (or regular poster for that matter) the choice of whether they want to post in a no-debate area or in the debate forum.

If they post in the Main Forum, the rule states there will be no debate there and we have to have absolute respect for that. I don't agree with moving those threads. I think posts that teeter toward "debate" should be deleted and people should be reprimanded.

We voted for stricter rules as a consensus and we have to stick to that.

My two cents.

I don't know how relevant this is to this thread, but I have a couple of suggestions. As this thread has needed to be "bumped" in order for it to stay visible and while we are needing to vote for things...

Would it be better for polls like this one and the ones voting for the mods to be a sticky for maybe a week before it goes to a vote, the week (or 4 days in this case) it is being voted on and a week afterwards?

This is so that people like myself, who at certain times have limited access to internet are still able to participate or at least be more aware something is going on, or has happened because you know where to look?

Also it means that threads don't need to be bumped... or would that not work as well with people overlooking the stickies

Does this mean that something like Food Choices cannot be debated on the main forum? Food Choices is not the exclusive domain of Trads or Progs. Are we saying that only matters of theology and religion will be discussed in the SDA forum?

Unfortunately, for some TSDA'a food choices are a matter of theology and religion. In some cases, even salvation.

The fires are all over, just waiting for the gasoline to ignite...

Since no debate will be allowed in the main forum, food choices should not be debated there, I guess. They could be discussed as a fellowship topic. Any thread that is likely to lead to debate should be started in the debate sub-forum. And it's probably inevitable for a discussion of food choices among Adventists to result in debate since so many do view them as as matters of theology and religion.

I think the debate should be in the Main Forum and the sterile room of church positions should be in a sub-forum. It is debate and discussion that draw people to a forum. I am amazed at those who view Internet forums as some kind of evangelistic tool.
