I am referring to adults, not children who might be just repeating something they heard. Using your example, once you heard your friend called that name, you probably never, as an adult, called someone “slant eyes.”I have no clue. Perhaps when I was in grade school and really had no idea what racism was. I do remember defending my Korean friend on the bus when I was quite young, maybe second grade, and I could not fathom why people were calling her slant eyes and such. I don't think I even knew she was of a different race than me, I was just mad that people were being mean to her.
