What you believe about these things should be kept between you and God. 14:22

what exactly do these verses mean ? I have a rough idea but can anyone give me an indeph explination? how does this relate in the spiritual sense to our descision to follow christ and tolerance ?

I think Paul was clear in his own mind that there was nothing common or unclean in it itself. But he recognized too that other christians did not see it so. For them the principle deriving from Jesus teaching was not so clear-cut certainly not clear enough among Jewish believers to counter the massive force of sacred scripture along with national traditions.

Romans 14:22...The faith which you have keep to yourself before God. What is in view is unconditional trust in God alone which varies in strength from believer to believer. The "stronger" the faith (that is, the more unconditonal the trust), the less dependent on observance of particular traditions; the "weaker" the faith, the more dependent on such customs....hence, the spiritual sense which vary.

Goliwog, this chapter generally refers to things which are not specifically forbidden, but may hinder a person's relationship with God. Paul used the example of eating foods sacrificed to idols because it was a contemporary issue; today, we might talk about drinking alcohol or listening to secular music. The point is that whether a person decides to participate in the activity or not, he should make his decision in respect to him and God only.

The bible does not clearly say that playing video games is a sin, yet if we feel that it is unclean between us and God, to us it is unclean(wrong), correct?

Remember that food, eating got humanity in over our heads in the first place. So the issue of what to eat and what not to eat has a greater significance than you might think. Consider also that in a day man went from utopia in Eden to the stone age east of Eden. And God had to use what was available to teach humanity what was wrong about what we had done and how he was going to correct it. It began with baby steps.

For example: certain things were acceptable (clothing made of skin, and animal sacrifice) certain things were not (fig leaf aprons and vegetation sacrifices). Then the Law later spelled out which animals were acceptable to eat and to sacrifice. The ritual did have some hygienic / healthful benefit but it was to distinguish the sacred from the profane.

The passage in Acts and in 1 Corinthians essentially states that the lesson is over. As most folks know today too much of most foods is not good for you health wise, but all food that is edible is in fact clean ritual wise.

Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
