  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What took the RCC church so long to finally come around and apologize? Just curious....

Well for us it was John Paul's visit to Athens for the first time since the schism.. That was a historical moment and the apology was a good thing. Not that it completely healed the past but at least it was a good "intention" for starting up a process of healing the old wounds.

I still remember his speech and the very act of kissing the ground when he arrived to where St. Paul delivered his talk to the Athenians at the "Arios Pagos". (not sure if he kissed the ground at the Airport though...lol... been a long time ago) . It did moved the Greeks to see his act of remorse... towards the many errors they had comitted.

Don't know and Don't know where you are going with this.

I guess it's a damned if you do damned if you don't.

Have you ever wondered why the Reformers have never apologized for burning and hanging innocent people?

I'm wondering why JPII's apology continues to go largely unaccepted.

The Christian virtue of forgiveness.

Of course, I can't force anyone to forgive me.

The late Pope John Paul (can't remember his #) apologised to the EO for the Crusaders actions in Constantinople. That is something :)

Yes , it is something . It is something that shows that none should expect a Catholic pope to take care of the things involved in the current scandal for another 700 to 900 years - at the earliest . Though , they may surprise people .

Question ... in the apolgy , was there a mention of what actions , doctrines , commands were brought into existance to prevent anything similar in the future ( with respect to their subjects and heirarchy ,that is ) ?

After Godfrey and Balwin died there wasn't much spirit left in the crusades. But the kings and noblemen made peace with each other alot moreso than the popes did. I don't think any provisions were made. But ya gotta wonder what they were doing there to begin with. Jesus had commanded His people to the world.

His apology was from his heart and I think that was enough.... Still why would they have to deny their theology in order to apologize? How one is to apologize for their actions and they would do the same ones?

Shall we ask the CC to issue a Bull declaring that they will not go after the Holy Land again?
:sorry:

Well, I've been searching for said apology and while JPII reportedly issued about 100 apologies I can't find the transcripts, only the opinions of pundits.

Anyhoo, it's out there if anyone else cares to look for the particular apology they're interested in.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica]hile presenting a mask of friendship and reconciliation to the world outside, in the secret recesses of the Vatican she is gathering her forces to re-establish the Inquisition (for which she feigns an apology), using modern technology to her full advantage, and acquiring information to track down her enemies and obliterate all who do not comply with her religious dogmas. By this means she is laying plans to control not only Europe, but the whole world.

I wouldn't worry about it. Pope JPII gave a heartfelt humbling apology.
If it's not good enough for the Evangelicals (all the while sitting on their own skeletons in their closets) then tough. Too bad its their own problem and more than likely it wouldn't matter what anyone would say or do they would still hold to same unaccepting judgment anyway.

I'm tired of all the other Christians Faiths always having to defend and explain themselves to the Fundamentalist Evangelicals.
Here's a tip take the time an to actually learn what others believe, worry about your Church's doings and going on and your own sins.
