  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You have to believe that, don't you?

It's ad hominem too.

Please, can't you quote properly? Quoting out of context is always a bad debating technique. And no, that was not an ad hominem. You need to look up that term. That was simply an observation. No arguments was made based upon that statement so it was not an ad hom.

But you aren't looking for any causes, you have adopted a myth that cannot be tested.
Yeah, and so have you.
But hey, guess what fills the gap of knowledge better?
We're looking for the cause of the most complex things in existence.
Fine tuned universe, high end nano technology, extremely complicated systems, irreducable complexity.
Why don't you ask your prophets why they want to limit the options?
O wait, you can read why in the OP.

Yeah, and so have you.

Wrong, the theory of evolution has been tested many many times and it has passed all major tests. Some minor failures have resulted in tweaking of the theory. But then most theories get changed as we learn more and more. The important thing to note is that the tweaks get smaller and smaller.
But hey, guess what fills the gap of knowledge better?

Since the scientific method is the only one that consistently works you should know which one I choose.

We're looking for the cause of the most complex things in existence.

We are? Are you sure of that?

Fine tuned universe, high end nano technology, extremely complicated systems, irreducable complexity.
Why don't you ask your prophets why they want to limit the options?

Whoa, if you are going to spout a lot of nonsense you should warn a guy first. You do know that the claims of "irreducable <sic> complexity" have all been refuted. By the way, I have not made fun of the terrible failures of your religion, why the attack on "prophets"? That is the sort of attack that someone that does not understand science would make.

When they're about natural things, i am (as i already stated).
But, again, this is about our origins, itś history, and since we know stuff about the 'dead nature' of physics, we see that it has no laws or mechanisms to bring forth life.
moreover, the universe and life have the characteristics of design, and not just a little bit.
So, is it then reasonable to ignore one of the 2 options?
You know the answer.

I don't believe your opinion would be a reliable option to obtain the truth.

How revered are those scientists supposed to be? Bc I recognize a few but not all. I think those quotes were taken out of context. I think that's a sneaky thing to do.

Reeks a bit of desperation as well.

You say that because you believe in evolution.
and now you're hurt because your prophets admit to their dishonesty.

Reeks a bit of desperation as well.

That's true! I can't imagine spending the time chopping up quotes from context to put on this board. Why do ppl have so much time on their hands. Maybe he just did a c&p from a site. That's pretty dishonest too bc he didn't give the link to the site. Either way somebody spent time putting that together! Nobody with sense would just accept it w/out realizing the quotes have been taken out of context, so it's pointless.

Are you trolling me? That's such a OTT crazy thing to write. You're the 40 something who posts in the teen only section about the evils of ouija boards, lol.

Desperate people do desperate things.

It is amusing to watch though.

That is the usual tactic. Find a creationist site that does not mind lying by quote mining and then just copy and paste. The original site knows that they are quoting out of context.

I am a Christian who accepts the mainstream account of evolution. To those of you who agree with the mainstream theory, let me ask a pointed question: Why do you argue with the "evolution-deniers". Surely you would agree that no creationist has every budged a millimeter from their position, despite overwhelming evidence against that view.

Do you post for the sake of "lurkers"? Do you post to sharpen your own debating skills?

Of course, I, too, frequently engage in debate with posters whom I believe will never budge no matter how convincing the evidence against their position is. So why do I post? For the sake of lurkers and to sharpen my writing / debating skills.

I think people post for a variety of reasons, some of them you include above.

For me, I always find it entertaining, to see how folks who deny well evidenced reality, try to support their position.

These quotes are either not that revealing, saying reasonable things that you've clearly taken to mean something else, or quite possibly just taken out of context.

Have you read the original sources where these quotes are from? Do you know if they are in context? Do you know what the authors are even trying to say by saying them? These are important if we are to have an open and honest discussion.

What do you seek to achieve with these quotes, and how does it help the Gospel?

But natural-ism is a belief-system.

Do you understand the difference between philosophical naturalism and methodological naturalism?

Also, on a side note, I have never misquoted you. I would expect you extend the same courtesy to me.
