  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We are told that our Body returns to the earth. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust. As Christians we believe that we go to Heaven when we die or sleep. Usually this is just our spiritual body that goes to Heaven while our physical body remains here on the Earth. Then we are told that at the end of the 1,000 year reign of Christ our physical body will be resurrected and there shall be a New Heaven and a New Earth. So this is when our physical body and our spiritual body will be united back together again.

Yet we are told when Jesus died there were many saints that their physical body was resurrected. "At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. The tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised." (Matthew 27:52) Paul talks about those who will not sleep: "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed" (1Cor15:51) Also Daniel talks about this: "And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." (Daniel 12:2)Although this looks like a post millennial event. "Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.(Isa26:19)

I always wondered what happened to the old testament saints that were resurrected with Jesus. They say they went to Heaven with Jesus. Yet Jesus had a physical body and we are told that our body will remain here on the Earth and only our Spiritual body will go to Heaven.

This may complicate the issue more but what about the babies that never even made it to the womb. That were little more than zygote that contains all of the DNA information for a physical body. When we get to Heaven will we be preparing them for their return to Earth also?

Is this not deeper fellowship, the fellowship between a physical and a spiritual body?

God sets a standard that most people will fall into. But occasionally He breaks that set standard and takes a person to heaven Enoch, Elijah, etc.. So as with our body most people will fall into dying and having their body go into a grave waiting for the resurrection and their new body. But God may have other believers do something else.

Right now we can look into the Bible and see examples and try to see God plan but a lot of times we do not have the complete picture.

It seems like your question is more or less "what kind of body will we have"?

No one really knows, only that it will be different. In 1 Corinthians 15:37-49 Paul discusses types of flesh and that the flesh of a man is different from the flesh of an animal, which is different from the flesh of fish and birds. He then goes on to describe a spiritual body, and alludes to the spiritual body of the resurrected Jesus. That is not to say that Jesus was not raised a physical body, only that his body had been changed. He also said that those left alive at Christ's return would be changed:

1Co 15:52 - In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

So the dead are raised incorruptible, taking up their bodies, though a body of a different type of flesh. Those left alive change from one type of flesh to another. That different flesh is spiritual flesh, whatever that might be.

When Jesus rose from the dead He had a glorified body. While He was God and man at the same time, His mortal body became immortal as Paul described will take place at the resurrection.

Those who were resurrected at the death of Christ received a glorified body. They went to heaven this way.

Enoch and Elijah received a glorified body before they could enter heaven. Mortal flesh cannot enter into heaven, but the immortal body of flesh can. Just as Jesus did.

Actually the dead in Christ rise before the thousand years begins. They are the ones that reign with Christ with a rod of iron for a thousand years. The only ones that resurrect after the thousand years are the "rest of the dead" that lived not until the thousand years ends. If the dead in Christ rose first, then the rest of the dead did not die in Christ.

"The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years were complete. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection! The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him for a thousand years. " (Rev20:5,6)

There will be a New Heaven and a New Earth. We rule and reign with Christ for 1,000 years. But it looks like our physical body is not actually resurrected until the end of the 1,000 years. So we will only have a Spiritual body at the time.

Also there is a reference to the "second death has no power over them". Rev 20:14 tells us "the lake of fire. This is the second death."

The resurrection of the dead in Christ definitely is before the thousand years. It is said to be at the last trump and takes place before the rapture occurs. Both events happen at the second coming prior to the start of the thousand years.

Even Rev 20 will focus on one small group of the dead that comes to life before the rest of the dead do proving a resurrection before the thousand years.

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Two resurrections separated by a thousand years.

Ok, so Jesus, Enoch, Elijah & the old testament saints that were resurrected after Calvery in Jerusalem - they have a resurrected body. So Heaven must be a physical place if they can have a physical body there. I hear people say that Heaven is a planet. Larger than the Earth. If larger then that means more gravity than the earth. Also the Earth is very unique because of the moon and the dance between the moon and the earth.

I just wonder what sort of body did they receive? "But they were startled and frightened, thinking they had seen a spirit. “Why are you troubled,” Jesus asked, “and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at My hands and My feet. It is I Myself. Touch Me and see—for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” (Luke 24:37-39) The disciples had problems with this also and He was there for them to examine that He had a physical body and He was not just a spirit.

I have been resurrected from the dead many times. But I do not get a new body. I just keep getting the old one back again. Maybe that is why I was falling in the bottomless pit. Only they revived and resuscitate me. I did not see anything spiritual at all. Just a pit which I now understand was a volcano. "And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit." (Rev9:2)

The first resurrection seems to be the tribulation saints that came out of the tribulation period. I do not plan to be here during that period of time. Even I prayed and told God I would be willing to go into the trib if there was something I could do to help people. He told me that there is nothing I could do to help them. That is why they are in the tribulation. He will have 144,000 to give a witness and testimony for Him. I think they are already preparing and writing their books for that period of time.

That's just a normal resurrection. The resurrection of the dead in Christ is when the new glorified body is received.

First off heaven is no planet, heaven is right above your head above the water that is above the raqia, but i will not get into that.

But you are also reading a lot into the account of the saints that were resurrected in Matthew. There is nothing else said about these saints. So no one can say what happened to them.

heaven is right above your head
This is a referance to the firmament. Actually there are 73 verses in the Bible starting with Genesis 1:8 "And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day".

As a dispensationalist I believe a day in Genesis is 1,000 years. If we go ack 12,990 years we will find the remains of the nano diamond comet. I believe this is when the era we live in began. There was also a massive extinction at the time. There was a lot of global warming as the ice age was coming to an end and the modern age that we live in was beginning. This is when the wholly mammoths and saber tooth tigers went extinct. Today they find mammoths that still have undigested food in their tummy.

I wish I had a glorified body. Even it would be nice to have the body I had 40 years ago.

The firmament is a English translation, if an English word is going to be used to describe the raqia. Expanse I believe better fits this open area where the sun, moon and stars are located.

God gave Ezekiel a look at heaven and Jesus, when he was on earth Ezekiel chapter 1.

satan has been very successful in hiding the location of heaven from many believers. When all along it is right above our heads.

As for if people, now are in heaven in a physical body i just do not know but when Moses and Elijah appeared at transfiguration he had a body just not sure was it flesh and bones.

Angels take on human forum and i am believing that would be a physical body. So really nothing can be stated as for sure about our body (in heaven) from what information God has given us in the Bible
