We are told that our Body returns to the earth. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust. As Christians we believe that we go to Heaven when we die or sleep. Usually this is just our spiritual body that goes to Heaven while our physical body remains here on the Earth. Then we are told that at the end of the 1,000 year reign of Christ our physical body will be resurrected and there shall be a New Heaven and a New Earth. So this is when our physical body and our spiritual body will be united back together again.
Yet we are told when Jesus died there were many saints that their physical body was resurrected. "At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. The tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised." (Matthew 27:52) Paul talks about those who will not sleep: "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed" (1Cor15:51) Also Daniel talks about this: "And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." (Daniel 12:2)Although this looks like a post millennial event. "Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.(Isa26:19)
I always wondered what happened to the old testament saints that were resurrected with Jesus. They say they went to Heaven with Jesus. Yet Jesus had a physical body and we are told that our body will remain here on the Earth and only our Spiritual body will go to Heaven.
This may complicate the issue more but what about the babies that never even made it to the womb. That were little more than zygote that contains all of the DNA information for a physical body. When we get to Heaven will we be preparing them for their return to Earth also?
Is this not deeper fellowship, the fellowship between a physical and a spiritual body?
