I had this question in a study I am doing: meditate on the idea of resting on God alone. How can you put this into practice?

My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation.

He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

I feel like the Lord is teaching me this, but it is hard to put it into words...as to just how it is happening. What I see is His Word is having more and more authority over all the other voices in my life and this world. I am finding much more emotional stability. I'm not as impulsive as I used to be...I find my will choosing Him more and more.

Any other thoughts on this one out there brethren?

Sister AW:

You are a wise person for you already know the answer: Practicing "resting on God alone" is choosing His Will with all your will (and all your heart). And His Will is the words of the bible. If the words are promises, we receive the promises with amen and thanksgiving. If the words are commands, we obey. That's how we know we are resting in Him. May God increase your knowledge and wisdom. Amen.

You know, someone else thought I was not hearing from the Lord too. But this waiting in silence before the Lord means something else to me. It means He has brought me to a place where I am not screaming "fix" this and "give me that"...the murmuring is fading away...trust, hope and rejoicing are flooding in. I am not looking around so much for someone "else" to see and hear and rescue me...He hears, He sees, He is My Rock and He is My Salvation.

I am hearing from Him more than I ever have...it is an amazing place. :)

Yes, I am seeking to be in this same place continually, as well - learning to lean, learning to rest in Him.

Sometimes its hard to stop and listen and trust. Sometimes its hard to believe that no words are needed, that He reads my heart and mind, and has His Holy Spirit interceding for me according to His will. But when His peace, which passes all understanding, envelopes me, I know I am where He wants me to be, and I am anxious for nothing.

Praise the name of the Lord our God who deals wonderously with us!

Yes! HE waits for us in the secret place. HE waits and HE calls, but HE cannot force us to come. HE waits for our desire to be for HIM alone.

And oh, what riches HE keeps for us there!

"But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him,"
(1 Corinthians 2:9):amen:

I can't seem to do this at the moment. being still and quiet is distressing to me, and I'm still at the looking round for someone to rescue me stage. :sigh:
I KNOW what I must do, but I can't stick out the waiting and end up running away again.

It's good to know people are finding it though. There is hope for me yet!

God bless, Susana

Praise the Lord for His goodness!
Nothing I've done, but all His work; the sweetness of Jesus is flowing over me, even in a time of heartache and struggle.
Oh such sweetness!
Thank You Jesus, thank You so much Lord for Your love and grace.

Hi Sue,

I get to the 'rescue me' stage too quite often lately, and I've been let down so much by people in the world that I end up in a real quandry - wanting rescuing but not trusting anyone enough to open my heart to. I'm beginning to be able to pray more often. Sometimes it just doen't seem to happen, does it?

I'm glad you have begun to feel Jesus' presence. I don't think I'm very open to it at the moment. My heart feels very closed off in general, but I guess it's all part of the growing process. Hmmm. . . why did no one tell me that personal growth was going to be painful. :)

I pray that things will continue to get better for you as you move forward.

Love,

maharg

Thank you Maharg for the encouragement. I pray you will find the path through your own troubles. It's good to hang on even when we can't "feel", and I know you are doing that so faithfully, but I do pray He will give you the blessing of being able to receive the palpable assurance too.

You need to find someone to trust sometimes, to help examine what's holding you back, but I too have had difficulty and a long wait to find a person willing and able to walk through it with me. She too may let me down some time, and she can't answer everything for me, but company is so essential at this time. We have to take a risk. Life is a risk. Never give up.

I had a great blessing yesterday, and I find He is waiting for me to come back for more all the time, but I am still only partially satisfied!
Begining to realise the only thing that will really ease this longing in the end is the day we meet face to face. Oh joy! See you there too!

God bless you, love Susana

Thank you for your thread and all the encouragement to me.
I keep coming back to this thought.

In the end, we can help each other walk in the right direction, offer an arm to lean on, but only the Lord Himself can give us the desires of our hearts, and only He will never let us down.

Blessings, love Susana

I just can't help but be so thankful for all of the wonderful, yet trying ordeals the Lord puts in our lives. Even though there are times where you feel like you won't be able to take one more step or push the trust in Him one more inch... he does miracles and will push you when you don't have the strenght to do it yourself any longer. He is a God of mercy and love! How lucky we all are!
