• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Free will" is an aspect of our linear existence. If we were eternal and timeless
then we wouldn't have to deal with "before" and "after." But we do...so we are
stuck with time-related concepts like free will.
Do you have free will? what is it like?

Somewhere between #1 and #2.

Unless you are currently a spirit, then on earth Satan rules.
We can only "hope" for salvation..

"Knock and the door will be opened to you" that can only happen if there is someone there to open the door.
"Seek and you will find" again it can only happen if there is something there to find.

It's all wishful thinking at best.

Are you in control of your thoughts? Can you choose to believe something regardless of the evidence for it?

Sure. People believe in aliens....and what people say about history, and about how planets form...and where the moon came from.....and even who their parents are.....with no proof whatsoever.

He's the solution to your problem.
A problem created by a religion for which it has the solution. Consider me sceptical.
You don't have to include Him in your future if you choose not to.
I do not find belief to be a choice. I would need to see some convincing evidence or arguments first. Got anything?

Still driving that Dodge? I asked, are you in control of your thoughts? Can you choose to believe something regardless of the evidence for it? Can you choose to believe that Earth is being visited by extraterrestrial aliens for the remainder of the week?

I am. Thanks.
I can choose to believe I will be here
tomorrow in spite of all the gunfire
outside my house at night, the wrecked
cars I see on the expressway as I drive,
in spite of all that I plan for next week.

No. Yourself? Can you choose to believe that Earth is being visited by extraterrestrial aliens for the remainder of the week?
If you don't believe in free will, what difference would it make? If we only believe what we have to believe and have no control over what we think, what we think is only what we must think.

Is belief something that is controlled by your will?

Free will is the concept that all people are the source of truly free thought and action. Belief is an action of thought. Are we free to actually believe something is true or are we just believing what we have to believe?
