You mean... Obama just might go down in history as an unremarkable President? Say it ain't so, Shoeless Joe!
No, Obama's been a remarkable president. He will be remembered for Obamacare. He will also be remembered for having driven the national debt to unsustainable levels ... and for his administration's divisiveness and ineptness in foreign policy.

He has two remaining years to work with the Republicans, should they be lucky enough to win, and redeem his legacy by working in a bipartisan manner.

If it had not been for Republican obstructionism we would have seen FAR more progress.

Therefore, the blame for any present political failings falls squarely on the GOP.

Amen to that.

Whoever said the Republicans were in office to represent the people were nuts, they are only there for themselves.

Anyone interested in discussing the topic here?
Absolutely.

Recent evidence suggests that the decline of the Republican party has been exaggerated.
Surprising results from a poll conducted by Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government: Poll: Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government
Cambridge, MA – A new national poll of America’s 18- to 29- year-olds by Harvard’s Institute of Politics (IOP), located at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, finds slightly more than half (51%) of young Americans who say they will “definitely be voting” in November prefer a Republican-run Congress with 47 percent favoring Democrat control – a significant departure from IOP polling findings before the last midterm elections
And a warm welcome to the new faces of the Republican party.

Let's not forget that he also has "fundamentally transformed" this country into a place where more people on food stamps is now considered to be an achievement, a country where not filing for unemployment yet still being unemployed means you employed. But as Michelle once said: "Barack knows that we are going to have to make sacrifices; we are going to have to change our conversation; we're going to have to change our traditions, our history; we're going to have to move into a different place as a nation."

I guess we'll know for sure tomorrow night. I tend to feel there is some softening of the commitment on the part of those who have traditionally voted Republican, and that that's because they've too often caved instead of standing up for the values of those very people who put them into office, but that may have been exaggerated, as you said.

Tell me about it! A friend of mine who is into guns just indicated that he's tired of all the campaign commercials on both sides (Gov. Walker vs. Mary Burke) and is going to vote for a 3rd party candidate just to "make a statement". This in spite of the fact that Gov. Walker signed into law the Castle Doctrine and Concealed Carry for our state, which is something my friend was very happy about. Just unbelievable!

BTW, voting to make a statement will only give you satisfaction on election day. Voting for someone who has fought for what you believe in could benefit you for the next 4 years. I would never vote against someone who governed to my satisfaction just to make a "statement". People did that 2 years ago, and look what we still have as a result.

I agree. There are sensible reasons for voting third party, but not to "make a statement." In fact, votes given to a third party hardly ever are recognized as being statement votes, so it doesn't do any good to go that route, anyway. And if a person is a one-issue voter, or something close to it, I can't imagine voting against the candidate who delivered on that all-important issue. Maybe your friend is not exactly a one-issue voter after all.

Everyone who survives must eventually grow up, under Obama the USA is slowly growing up and leaving the wild west and covered wagons behind, they are or should be consigning it to where it belongs into history, the world is getting smaller every day.

Sometimes change can be for the worse. What's being left behind is the Constitution, job opportunities, a hard-working president, Congressional cooperation, color-blind appointments, and much more that we once valued.

It's not hard to understand why you had to jump over all recent American history in order to make the "wild west" and "covered wagons" your point of comparison to Obama's vision for the country. ;) Anything more recent wouldn't have made him look very good by comparison.

It's like a New World Order ...
George Bush New World Order - YouTube
We have before us the opportunity to forge for ourselves and for future generations a new world order -- a world where the rule of law, not the law of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations. When we are successful -- and we will be -- we have a real chance at this new world order, an order in which a credible United Nations can use its peacekeeping role to fulfill the promise and vision of the U.N.'s founders. The History Place - Great Speeches Collection: President George Bush Speech Announcing War Against Iraq
I've heard it before ...

Yeah, the term "representative" is a bit ironic these days.

How about "partisan delegate"? That's much more accurate.

Were people still using covered wagons up until 6 years ago? I'm not sure how we had the "wild west" until then either. I hope you aren't hoping for the "Brave new world" to emerge. That's the direction we're headed if we keep going the direction we currently are.

Americans have for years thought that the US was the centre of the world and anything any good came only from the US,
that as been shown many times to be a false assumption, compared to the rest of the world the US is way down the list on everything except bad things, on those lists they usually come out on top.
In civilised societies pick a good subject and the US loses pick a bad subject and the US wins, check it out for yourself.

:o

Europeans should stop watching 60-year-old westerns and find out what the U.S. is actually like today. And "growing up"?? Under Obama?? More like "growing fed up." Have you seen the clown's approval ratings? His own party didn't want him campaigning for them. He's been the author of disaster, economic stagnation, and deterioration of the U.S. as a world power.

No wonder! With the current administration downsizing our military and running up the debt to dizzying heights, it's getting more and more difficult to do much good anymore. That was part of Obama's plan as he has always said. He wants to shut down our coal industry and coal fired power plants, which he even said would "necessarily cause energy prices to skyrocket". He wanted and got Obamacare, which will cripple the economy after the employer mandate kicks in (after the election, of course).

I could list more things, but you get the idea. In order to be the most powerful nation and be able to do the most good, we need to be strong enough to be able to accomplish those things. Degrading our economy, downsizing our military, and driving up the size and cost of government does nothing to make this possible.

In 2008 when Obama was elected everyone was saying how it was the end of the Republican party. But 6 years of lies, coverups, deception and 24/7 whining has people seeing our racist-in-chief for who he really is.

Best case scenario would be for Republicans to take over Congress. If Obama was smart he would do as Bill Clinton did and cooperate with the Republicans and enjoy a prosperous final 2 years. But I think his arrogance will not allow him to submit to anything beyond his own self-delusion.

Well, he almost certainly will instruct his people in Congress to obstruct almost every legislative act possible, so that they won't reach his desk for signature (or a veto). He doesn't want to be put in that position, you know.

You mean the Democrats might filibuster a Republican bill?
