Inflation, a result of global inflationary pressures, was never as high as in other countries and is getting under control.

Otherwise the economy is running on all its cylinders.

Perhaps all the Republican pundits and propagandists who are making mountains out of molehills in regard to the economy should grab a shovel and go build that wall they want so much.

With their skill in making mountains out of nothingburgers, the wall will be done in no time.

Inflation, a result of global inflationary pressures, was never as high as in other countries and is getting under control.

Perhaps telling everyone to stop working and sending them multiple "stimulus" checks wasn't such a great idea after all.

Ah well, hindsight and all that. Who could have known that handing out $814 BILLION would cause inflation? These economic conseqeuences are about as unpredictable as the tides...

Both parties share the blame for the mess of inflation we find ourselves in now. In trying to win a short-sighted popularity contest, it would seem that no one was really all that concerned about what would happen in the long-term. And now here we are, all of us paying for it.

Meanwhile back here in reality, Florida was the fastest growing state in 2022 for the first time since 1957.

I think people may come to regret moving to such a vulnerable state, where simply spending time outdoors becomes increasingly grim. Otoh, the prospects for many other states dont look great. Its just that FL seems to be at the steaming edge.

FWIW, Round 2 will be September 27 at the Ronald Reagan Library in California. It will air on Fox Business, Univision and Rumble.
There are slightly tighter criteria for participation. Asa Hutchinson and Doug Burgum will need a little tailwind to make it in.

Trump expected to skip 2nd Republican debate, plans speech to workers in Detroit

6 candidates appear to have qualified for the debate

Driving the news: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis; businessman Vivek Ramaswamy; former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley; former Vice President Mike Pence; former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie; and Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) have all appeared to have qualified, according to spokespeople for their campaigns. [That tailwind for Burgum and Hutchinson has yet to materialize.]

Doug Burgum has snuck in!

Seven GOP presidential candidates are set to debate Wednesday night

Former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson did not make the stage after he failed to meet the RNC’s criteria. And former president Donald Trump will once again skip it.

Trump has not signed the pledge, so he literally does not qualify. But he also literally does not care.

For round 3 on November 8th in Miami, four candidates have met eligibility requirements:

DeSantis
Haley
Ramaswamy
Christie

Obviously, there's still a couple weeks, but Scott, Pence and others are still on the outside.

I guess Pence doesn't have to worry about qualifying for the debate anymore.

Pence suspends campaign for president

There was major concern in Pence’s campaign that he wasn’t going to qualify for the third debate stage next month, one source told CNN. That concern was a driving factor in Pence’s decision, a Republican adviser close to his campaign said, and several days of fundraising this week did little to alleviate that.

[Pence has vowed] to help elect “principled Republican leaders” moving forward.

Pence’s theory of his candidacy was simple – he broke with his former boss Donald Trump over the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol and refocused on the core conservative principles that founded the modern Republican Party with Ronald Reagan, his political beacon.

Pence suspends campaign for president

Trump, who once appeared to defend January 6 threats against Pence, calls on his former VP to endorse him

“Because I had a great successful presidency, and he was the vice president, he should endorse me,” said Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nod. “I chose him, made him vice president. But … people in politics can be very disloyal. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

As usual, loyalty to Trump is very important to him. Loyalty from Trump? Another matter.

I don't have cable, so did not watch it.
Just saw this post. YouTube usually has a site that is carrying this sort of thing live.

Doug Burgum announces he’s suspending his 2024 presidential campaign

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum announced Monday he’s suspending his long-shot campaign for president, after failing to gain traction among voters and appearing unlikely to qualify for the fourth GOP debate this week.

The fourth debate is Wednesday in Alabama. It is expected to feature Haley, DeSantis, Ramaswamy and possibly Christie.

The two-hour debate in Tuscaloosa, Ala., will air at 8 p.m. EST on NewsNation, a cable channel owned by Nexstar Media Group, which also owns The Hill. It will be moderated by former Fox News and NBC host Megyn Kelly, NewsNation anchor Elizabeth Vargas and The Washington Free Beacon Editor-in-Chief Eliana Johnson.

Takeaways from the fourth Republican presidential debate

After watching his three rivals squabble for the debate’s first 17 minutes, Christie tried to reframe the debate with a reminder: Trump is currently vastly outpacing all of them in the polls.

“I’ve got these three guys who are all seeming to compete with Voldemort — ‘He who should not be named,’” the former New Jersey governor said, referring to the Harry Potter series villain whose name characters avoided saying. “They don’t want to talk about it.”

“When you go and you say the truth about somebody who is a dictator, a bully, who has taken shots at everybody — whether they’ve given him great service or not over time — who dares to disagree with him, then I understand why these three are timid to say anything about it,” Christie said. “Maybe it’s because they have future aspirations; maybe those future aspirations are now or maybe they’re four years from now. But the fact of the matter is, the truth needs to be told.”

Perhaps most telling about the state of the GOP primary race was the reaction to Christie’s comments.

Questions asked of his rivals in the debate’s opening moments had elicited fierce, and sometimes personal, back-and-forth exchanges.

Christie’s comments, though, were met by his rivals with silence.

CNN to host two GOP presidential primary debates in 2024

CNN will host two Republican presidential primary debates next month in Iowa and New Hampshire – states that hold the first contests in the race for the 2024 GOP nomination, the network announced Thursday.

The first debate will take place on January 10 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, less than a week before Iowa caucusgoers weigh in on the Republican presidential race. The second debate will be January 21 at St. Anselm College in Goffstown, New Hampshire.

The Republican National Committee is expected to announce this week it will release candidates from its requirement that prevents them from participating in non-RNC-sanctioned debates.

I still like Christie the best.

Trump will not go, so that the next debate will be head to head between Haley and DeSantis. [No other candidates qualified in the meantime.]

“With only three candidates qualifying, it’s time for Donald Trump to show up,” said Haley in a statement after CNN’s announcement. “As the debate stage continues to shrink, it’s getting harder for Donald Trump to hide.”

“We understand Donald Trump is scared to get on the stage because he’d have to finally explain why he didn’t build the wall, added nearly $8 trillion to the debt, and turned the country over to Fauci,” DeSantis campaign spokesperson Andrew Romeo said in a statement.

[Trump, naturally, has counterprogrammed a 'town hall' on Fox.]
