If you are harassing someone, you will be told far before you are banned. If there is some disparity at any time, you can appeal it. Harassment would include (but not be limited to) such things as:
- Following someone from thread to thread
- Posting their name/personal information
- PMing or otherwise contacting someone when you know that contact is unwelcome
- singling out a person or persons to mock or belittle
- threatening to contact their work/church/spouse/family or suggesting that other people do it
- posting veiled references to people
- misquoting people

Thank you, Constance. That's very helpful.

Because Christian Forums should be about posting on a Christian Forum. It's just like any other institution - these are the rules and conditions of participation.

First you say that it should be a Christian forum, then you say that it's just like any other institution? Frankly, I see nothing Christian about these rules.

Both, and it was suggested by a member.

That's odd, since so very many posts have referenced the teeming masses of Staff who are also against the new processes.

I'm a Member. I suggest you all rethink this poor decision.

What exactly is not Christian about posting a report thread? Especially if I am the one reported?

Both, and it was suggested by a member.

Thank you for the answer. Was the more popular opinion that the report threads should be entirely open considered and if so why was it turned down?

If you are harassing someone, you will be told far before you are banned. If there is some disparity at any time, you can appeal it. Harassment would include (but not be limited to) such things as:

- singling out a person or persons to mock or belittle
- threatening to contact their work/church/spouse/family or suggesting that other people do it
- posting veiled references to people
- misquoting people

These are all very subjective (and thus open to abuse) except for the possibility of making personal contact at a persons work etc or posting their confidential information. Who will be the one who judges the intentions of the individual being accused of harassment?

Additionally you also said it could be appealed, but is it not staff who will be hearing the appeal and as I understand it those appeals are also closed correct?

So as it stands there is still no real accountability at all.

The reported member will be allowed to read and respond in the report thread. However, the report thread will remain private, and should not be divulged to other than the RT, in accordance with the site wide rules.

It appears that you should be able to only access your own reports.

Yet no one has given me a reason yet PW for this rule? What is there to hide that I should not be able to post a report thread on me? If I am not ashamed of it or want it kept secret why should it be? What is the reason for the rule?

Under what circumstances and for what reason would you need to post it?

Anything that the Membership ought to be aware of. BTW, Answering questions with questions is no answer at all.

Why do I need a reason?

To begin with I disagree that I have to have a need to post anything here. It doesn't really matter what my need is, but let's assume for arguments sake that I wish to point out staff inconsistency, unfairness, inappropriate actions etc.

Again if staff is not misbehaving, for what other reason would they object to my posting the thread? (assuming of course no other members confidential information is compromised)

Another reason one might want to post parts of a report thread, or a report decision, is to educate another poster regarding what grounds, what arguments might inform a decision on a particular type of reported post.

That was a reason the open reports were useful, being able to follow the logic behind decisions, leading to members understanding why a particular post might or might not break a rule, thus encouraging people to moderate their own posting behaviour.

HA!

This is cute. Go here Forum Reports

You'll get to see (and reply to) all the reports you've lodged. Not the ones you're the subject of, mind you, but the ones you've made against others.

Crackerjack programming, indeed! :p

Thanks, Lindon. The tech is working on it.
Why can't the tech work on so many of the other bugs that have been reported repeatedly for months on end with no resolution?

Personally, I thought this recent bug with the reports was actually a feature. It was an improvement over the nothing we were able to see since the phantom-CEO took over. I'm disappointed that the "tech" is "working on" a fix.

I think the fix is to go with the original plan so that we can see (and presumably defend ourselves from) the Reports that are against us. As it is now, we can only see the Reports we've made against others.

Ah, thanks, that would be a great improvement.
