Would it help Katie to know that there are a lot of people that didn't know them IRL that are praying for them and really do care about them? Maybe direct her to this site.
Since you know her in person, I do hope that you continue to check in with her and I do agree that a camping trip would be a great idea, but if not even that, then get together for something, just for the sake of getting together because you care.

I think we want people to "move on" or "get over it" or whatever because it makes US uncomfortable. WE don't know how to deal with grieving people. We haven't been taught to sometimes just be there, but not necessarily giving advice. It's easy to say "I'll pray for you" or "call if you need anything" and sometimes, at least for me, I wish people would just DO whatever it is instead of waiting for me to ask because asking is always difficult whether a loss is involved or not.
She needs to be able to share her feelings no matter what those feelings are without fear of judgement from anyone. We do not teach our children that it is OK to be sad when someone dies and that's sad. We teach our children to suck it up buttercup, put on a happy face even if you are dying inside. It's very sad we are not allowed to be real when we really need it.

Thank you for the pictures, Elderado!

MrsVanB, thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us. It really paints a picture for me.

blackribbon, you speak words of wisdom. Thank you! This is a nice thread and it has also educated me on how to grieve/let others grieve.

I'm not sure but I think the man she was seeing is no longer in the picture. I hope she at least has somebody to stay with her and make sure everything is okay though.

Very great pictures, Elderado. That last one is funny ^_^
