I hate this arguement.so God basically raped her then?
so God basically raped her then?
Throughout the bible people always had the choice of being obedient to God or not. If they were not obedient then there were consequences of course, but no one was ever forced to be obedient.Uphill Battle said:I notice that anyone who raises this objection, have no problem with God demanind the lives of people throughout the pages of the bible. For compelling, for expecting.
really. I see a different picture than you.Throughout the bible people always had the choice of being obedient to God or not. If they were not obedient then there were consequences of course, but no one was ever forced to be obedient.

I hate this arguement.
For God to be a rapist, he'd have to be one of us. A rape is a man forcing himself on a women. In a case like this, it is more like the potter shaping the clay as he sees fit. (My, what a biblical concept!)
please. Everything belongs to God. EVERYTHING.
Did you see the passage that UB posted?
Did God 'tell' her, or did He 'ask' her?
But that's not what I asked.God laid out the plan, and then Mary accepted.
Does this really sound like God?:
God: you're going to have My Son.
Mary: ummmm I really DON'T want that
God: Tough its happening anyways. Look! You're already pregnant
Not true. But EVERYONE considers her to be significant. What I was cautioning about was kiting or linking these things together and then proclaiming that the one requires a belief in the next.
As was Jonah and not only did he say "no", but also tried to run away.no, I didn't. I know what her very noble response was.
that does very little to change the fact that she wasn't asked, she was told.
does this?God laid out the plan, and then Mary accepted.

and need I bring up what the result of the whole thing was?Not true.
List of things which I have heard Protestants call Mary: harlot, witch, harlot of Babylon, damner of mankind, tool, pawn, prostitute, harlot, lady of the town, woman of the night, town bike, etc etc.
That's just from Protestants. If I posted what Atheists, with Protestant backgrounds, have said than that post would immediately be deleted.
As was Jonah and not only did he say "no", but also tried to run away.
Need I bring up whales?
same place we find the crazy Catholics and EO's.Sorry to jump in late in the thread, but seriously... where in the heck did you find such crazy Protestants?!?
then there is something deeply, deeply wrong with you.i hate watching football. i just wanted to throw that out there haha.
are you suggesting that if I made a clay pot, and then decided what I wanted to put in it, I'd be RAPING it? Because that is pretty much the relationship between God and us. He made us, he owns us, he can do as he sees fit, and it would be GOOD and RIGHT. Now God gives us free choice the majority of the time. But frequently God steps in and says "you're doing this." or "this will happen." Our free will doesn't mean squat in the light of a God whose in charge. He raped her will, forced Himself on her body.
yes, some. not all. now how this relates to Mary, God knew before hand that Mary would be willing. He was not violating her "will" as she would respond exactly as we see in the bible. the fact remains, he did not ASK. he TOLD.and He chose to give up some of His control to us so that we could be truly free. otherwise we could not truly love, as the Trinity is free to love, and our lives would be pointless.
EC, I mean no disrespect towards you when I say this, but when you stated in thread #1 that Mary was "sinless", I need not read anything else you write just for the simple fact that Jesus was the only one who ever walked the earth that was sinless.
I was thinking of the Simpsons episode, where Flanders sets up "Praiseland."Disney World!!!!
Couldn't help it
