As an anecdote from my own life, there is a young family with a three-year-old child living next to my mother, who is a very proper 89 years of age. This child addresses both of us by our first names which initially came as a surprise, but we have grown to love and appreciate him. Neither of us were offended by his forwardness, but were merely startled.

I'm in the USA...and my children address their elders as Ma'am and Sir. It's called simple respect, common courtesy...something that's severely lacking in youth of all nations apparently...

In the UK using 'dear' the way that beamishboy did is definitely insulting , it is not considered good manners and he is but a 13yr old boy [ according to him and his blog ]

Dear Ms Anhelyna,

I apologise that my words gave offence. Please let me explain. If we had been talking to each other, it would have been most unnatural for me to address you as "my dear" in that unfortunate sentence of mine. I believe I would not have done so. But this is the peculiar thing about posting on the forum. It's both a "letter" and a "conversation" and yet, strictly speaking, it's neither. I used "my dear" in a slightly jocular mood, and at the same time, a little in the vein of "My dear Ms Anhelyna" which if used in a letter form would not have offended you. As I have said, the forum is a little like a letter and yet it is not so. Hence, I hope you will understand that this mild confusion as to the nature of a forum posting did lead me to take a liberty I wouldn't have had we been talking face to face.

There is one other problem. I do post in the Teens forums too and sometimes I admit I forget that I am dealing with mainly old folks in the adults' forums. But there are many teenagers in adult forums too and you must realise that you did not indicate your age in your posts and I think I did assume that you were much younger than your real age.

Of course now that I realise that you must be much older, I should be more careful when I'm addressing you. But to be fair to me, you will notice that however much I may be upset by older people, I don't say "my dear" to people who have indicated their ages next to their names. You have chosen to hide your age but now it seems you want to be treated like someone older. I apologise for causing offence and will remember to address you more formally in future.

Perhaps MamaZ should keep in mind that here in this thread it was 2 Brits exchanging a message on a messgae board .

The tone he used in English useage [ which he is ] is condescending in the extreme and used by a child to an adult is definitely insulting.

I trust his parents , school or carer are aware of his posting style and the way he addresses folk.

No, my parents are not aware that I post on any forum. I only joined CF in early January this year because prior to that, there was a notice that said that I needed parental consent to join because I was then under 13. I joined CF legitimately after I had turned 13 and no parental consent was then necessary.

Why any 13yr old in the UK is able to have computer access that permits him to be posting at these times

then as these are UK times , I feel it is perfectly reasonable to question things.

I have internet connection 24 hours a day at home. I do access the net in school sometimes. Whenever I'm awake at odd hours, I would sometimes post something so that people will think I'm a mysterious chap. (The beamishboy is a free spirit, like Ariel etc etc). People don't necessarily know when I'm online - they may think I'm doing work on my laptop. Sometimes, I do post a little something from my palm top when I'm out somewhere and there is wi-fi connection so that again, it will appear like I'm always online. Hehe.

In his own words from post 201 he said

Apart from respectful language, I do not think there is a rule that younger people should use a particular language that will identify him as "young". Your objection here is now not that I'm rude to my elders. I can only speculate what your objection might be. Perhaps you think words like "discerning" is the monopoly of adults? I strongly disagree. I am capable of using far more difficult words and sentence structure than the average adult and I don't have to curb my ability in order to conform to your idea of what the norm should be. If your objection is that I'm disrespectful to my elders, I accept the rebuke (but then I think you should not hide the fact that you are an adult in a forum where I can't see you and ascertain your age). But if your objection is that I need to dumb down my language or that I should engage in baby talk, such an objection cannot be valid.

Hi Ms Anhelyna,

My Mum is not the internet-savvy sort of person. She still writes letters although she does use the email. No, I won't tell her what I do online because she's one of those who believe that every adult is a predator on the internet just because she reads horrible stories in the newspapers about children meeting adults after chatting online. She's bound to put a stop to my internet access totally.

I do obey her instructions. If you read my blog, you will see that all the photos of me in castles and even the Forbidden City have this deleted space in them. That's actually a pic of me. She does not want me to post pics of me online so I delete myself from my photos. You probably recognise one of the castles as a Scottish castle. Hehe. I've got tons of photos taken all over the world because I love to travel.

I'm very good at protecting my identity and location. I'm actually not in England at the moment - which explains my weird hours. I'm attending a foreign school on an exchange programme but notice I have never once disclosed the location or even the time zone. I hardly even hint at the fact that I'm not in England. Those photos of a cyclist and a bus and what a close shave it was - were taken in that other country but notice I made no mention of it in the blog. I do go home at some weekends and you can see that the photos taken in London are the only ones I have made clear the location eg the pic at the George & Vulture. My blog shows my absolute discretion and the precautions I've taken in this dangerous age of the internet. Hehe.

As far as I know, YHWH doesn't punish those rejecting the mary as mediator but those rejecting His Son JESUS as mediator. But to each their own I suppose.

I agree. I also think it's only fair that I explain a few things particularly since people who don't know the details may be wrongly upset with Anhelyna.

Anhelyna is of advanced years and it's only natural that she should be upset with the liberties taken by the beamishboy. That's why we have to be very careful when we deal with people in CF. There's no telling that someone might be 70 or 80 or even older!

The beamishboy will be discreet but let it be said that the beamishboy never takes liberties with someone whose youngest grandchild is older than me. Any liberty taken was done without any knowledge of this important fact.

Of course Anhelyna was rightly furious. If the tables had been turned, I think I should be furious with someone so much younger calling me "my dear". I'll be thinking even my youngest grandchild is older than this annoying chap!

I think the moderators should force everyone to disclose their ages. Or maybe, we can have categories: teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and so on. People can still keep their exact age secret and this may be important for the ladies.

We can have peace now. The beamishboy will only call those in his category of teens "my dear". There's no reason (I think) for them to be upset although people in their later teens tend always to think they're so much older but we all know there's no justification for that. Hehe.

You are correct. The EO does not pray to the saints. I apologize for my miss type. What I meant to post was "the biblical reality is that Christians pray to the Father not through the saints".

Regardless of whether they pray to the saints, their iconodoulia is even worse than the Roman Catholics.
