• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My suggestion is to start lite. Try low fat fruit yogurt and half a banana for breakfast. The yogurt and banana are both full of the nutrients you need. It is light enough that it hopefully you will be able to stomach it. Another option is a fruit smoothie. You can use healthy fruits and juice (not a lot of sugar, however) for breakfast. Make the calories you take in count toward your overall nutritional goals.

Have you been to a doctor for a physical? If not, get one. Also, ask for a referral to a nutritionist. Your doctor may see a need for some weight gain. Stop believing the lies of the devil and start believing the truth about your nutritional and weight needs.

I am sorry that I came across harshly. That was not my intent. Please forgive me. I just believe deeply that eating disordered behavior is because we believe lies put in our heads by Satan. For some it is that they cannot gain weight. For others the lie is that the food will make them feel better, and it doesn't matter how big they get.

Have you been to a doctor and had that doctor tell you that your weight is acceptable for your height. When I was in treatment, the anorexic and bulimic patients had to gain weight and they resisted it terribly. What does your doctor say about your weight?

Also, I would not give you nutritional information. I believe that AFTER you see a doctor, you should get the nutritional information from a nutritionist. At treatment, the anorexic and bulimic patients had to eat supplements in addition to their regular meals. With every dinner, they had to drink a Boost or Ensure, on top of their meal. If they did not eat 85% of their meal, they had to have another Boost or Ensure.

Again, I am sorry for coming across harshly. I hope you will forgive me.

Hugs,
Trish

It sounds like you really do not know what the doctor would say about your weight. If you asked for a complete physical with bloodwork, it would not be attention seeking. The bloodwork would test for anemia and glucose levels.

The girls in treatment also suffered from osteoporosis, because of the lack of calcium in their diets. The body ate the calcium in their bones.

The body needs so many nutrients in a variety of combinations. It needs a minimum number of carbohydrates for the brain to function properly. It also needs a certain amount of protein for building cells and repairing damage done when injured. It also needs a minimum amount of fats for the transportation of certain vitamins and nutrients, as well as for the skin not to wrinkle.

God made us to need the food for our well being. We were created that way. He created the food sources just for us. He designed our bodies so intricately that we have to have the correct balance of nutrients for our health and development.

I hope this makes sense.

Hugs,
Trish

Yes I understand. I might go to the doctor. I'm not sure. I'm so confused - I want to do the right thing, but then I don't...hmm. You've certainly given me things to think about, thankyou.

You are welcome. Just remember that you were fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139 says that God created you in your mother's womb. While there, you were fed exactly the way you needed to be. When you were born you were fed exactly what you needed, either through mother's milk or formula. Those two foods had exactly what your body needed for you to grow into a healthy young girl. Be sure to consult a medical professional about your body's needs now. You are still a precious child of God who deserves to eat healthy foods.

while you are tossing it over in your life to seek doc's care... it is good to keep up trying to get your small-meals-plan, or the breakfast one, or any nutrition plan. still awaiting your update

Byootaful,

From reading all the posts on this forum, it really took me back to a few years ago when I was so obsessed with what I ate. All I could think about was what I was going to eat for the next meal, counting calories, and when I was going to exercise.

Then I learned that by not eating, it lowers your metabolism, making it to where when you eat something, your body will not be able to burn it up faster and it will turn into fat quicker. Your body needs fuel to be healthy, burn fat and create healthy, lean muscle.

Another thing I learned, is it is a proven fact that people who eat breakfast everyday, are naturally thinner, more healthier, and more alert, and have more energy that people who don't. Check out this link as to why breakfast is so important: http://caryraffle.blogspot.com/2005/10/breakfast-why-is-it-so-important.htmlSo I think it's a great idea for you to start small by eating lite for breakfast and follow up with a small lunch and dinner. Eat light because your stomach has shrunk and can't handle heavy or large amounts of food. The food you suggested in your post sound great. They are healthy and will give you energy.

I hope this helps. oh, and don't forget the importance of exercise, even just a walk 20-30 minutes a day will help you feel so much better about yourself. You will not only be creating a leaner, thinner body, feeling more energized and healthy, you will be releasing feel-good endorphins into your brain, making your feel comfortable, relaxed and peaceful.

I hope this helps. If you ever need to chat, just pm me:)

In Him,
Trinity

I echo the importance of breakfasts. However I disagree with the idea of exercise. Only a doctor should tell a person about exercise. The girls in my eating disorders program were not allowed to exercise if they were under a certain weight, or they were not eating enough calories. Exericse without the right amount of calories could cause serious health problems.
