I can make the 1st one sound like it's all one word. In fact we used to play tricks on people we did not know by going up to them and acting like we knew em and saying that--the reactions were hilarious. I used to run a furniture store in a "small" town in northern Alabama and I would get delivery directions like
"You know where Sheriff so&so lives"?
Turn Where the old yellar school bus "used to be"
and my personal favorite "Take a right by the 3 plastic cows"
In order to get customers to give you a street address you had to ask them for their "911" address or otherwise this is the stuff you'd get.![]()
We just got our 911 addy last year. Before that, directions were dependent on the age of the speaker. The nearest intersection was with a road called by three different names, depending on how long the individual had lived in the county... if it was over 15 years, the road was "Brown Shop Road" (since Mr. Brown had a blacksmith shop on the corner for about 50 years but it burned down about 25 years ago), for younger folks it was "State Police Road" (since the Police Barracks were located there), and for newbies it's "Bardane Road" (after the name of the industrial park located down from the State Police Barracks).
It's all part of the charm of living here in WV.
