O'siyo smaneck, and welcome to my Talking Circle. My point was on the history of tyranny and oppression in this country repeating itself, but only this time it will be the Caucasian race that will find itself oppressed and conquered by a flux of immigrants from another country. I used Mexico as my example, because of the hypocrisy of European immigrants and their descendants complaining about Mexican immigrants and their descendants living in the United States illegally, against the white man's laws, whose land was stolen from my ancestors, the original inhabitants of this land. My people, all NDNs, as well as the First Nations People of Canada, and Mexicans from Mexico are not immigrants, illegal or otherwise, because we are all indigenous to the North American continent. However, the same cannot be said for immigrants or their descendants from Europe. As I see it, as an NDN myself, these people live on stolen NDN land that is stained with the blood of my ancestors. I think it's hypocritical for a European immigrant or their descendants to complain about any immigrant from Mexico.

I agree with you completely here, I was just afraid your post would feed more white paranoia.

I have received a lot of criticism and mistreatment over the years, because I speak out against so many issues that irritate a lot of Caucasian people, such as illegal immigration and all the atrocities that were committed against my ancestors and other minorities in this country. IOW, I don't let people forget what this "Christian" nation did to my ancestors and to other minority people. I also hate, with a deep passion, NDN mascots and I'm not shy in telling people how I feel about them. I have spent my adult life being very vocal and outspoken on these issues. So, these factors have made a lot of (Caucasian) people very angry with me over the years. And I haven't talked about my outspoken distaste (and that's a polite way to say it) for America and its imperialism yet. I'm still very vocal on these issues, mostly online anymore, but it's been a few years since I've been to an actual protest with other NDNs. I do miss those days though.

I wish he would have mentioned all the atrocities committed against Native Americans in this country that were done in the name of Christ.

More true than perhaps you know. In the letter Columbus wrote to Queen Isabella in order to persuade her to fund his voyage, he stated that Christ would return soon and that Christendom needed to prepare the way by encircling Muslims from behind.
For Columbus the voyages that ended up bringing Europeans to your shores were a continuation of the Crusades.

well you said church made you feel unwelcome. i wanted to know more about that?

Yes, that is true. I have spent the vast majority of my Christian walk struggling to remain Christian. It saddens me to say that the most criticism and mistreatment I have received as a Native American Christian has been from Caucasian Protestant Christians and non-Christian NDNs. I have never been told by another minority Christian that I would have to abandon my entire NDN identity to be a genuine Christian and to be truly saved. However, I have been told that many times by Caucasian Protestant Christians over the years. I was told I would never been accepted into white society if I didn't abandon everything having to do with being NDN. Now on the other side, I have had many non-Christian NDNs criticize me and fight with me over being a Christian. They were mad at me for being a part of the "white man's religion" as Christianity is called. So yes, I have struggled to remain Christian over the years. It's been very hard for me.

Believe me, I know a lot about Columbus.

I'm very skeptical of any story told about Native Americans or the depiction of any native oriented story from someone who isn't Native American themselves. I would want to know if the sources they were using were actual NDN sources. Otherwise, I won't give the story any credence, because I can't trust the source.

Shalom.

I basically feel the same way of stories told about Jews. Of course, that means I'm pretty skeptical of the New Testament's description of my people.

Shalom LoAmmi, and welcome to my Talking Circle. I'm usually criticized and accused of being racist when I say things like that. I'm also accused of being a racist when I point out that the vast majority of people who criticize me, accuse me, and mistreat me over saying such things are Caucasian, but it's the truth.

Our two people could probably compare notes over treatment from Europeans ;)

I would say though it's important not to overly generalize. It veers into prejudice to judge people for the actions of their ancestors.
