  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Recurring numbers in the Bible?

Hello!

I've been reading through the New Testament (1 chapter a night) and I've reached the Revelatons section. Lots of the numbers keep popping up as I read it. I recall Jesus saying something along the lines of, "you must forgive someone 7 times 70 times". In revelations, there appears 7 seals, 7 angels, and 7 horns. And then the universe was created in 7 days... What exactly does the number 7 represent? I recall the forgiveness example being a symbol of infinity... is that anywhere near the mark?

In Revelations, the number 1/3 keeps coming about, mostly amidst the disasters/plagues. A third of the sea turns to blood, a third of the sea creatures die, a third of the ships were destroyed, a third of the sun was smitten, a third of men are killed, etc. Is there some significance in 1/3?

Thanks!

-A.T.

Thank you all for the replies! ^_^

Symbolism comes about a fair deal for me, and I'm always curious about the symbolism present in other religions. I am slightly curious about the 1 third reccurance, but thanks for trying to get an answer for me!

Again, thanks! ^_^
