  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can any of you electronics bods out there lend some advice. I'm the webmaster for my church and we have a large collection of sermons on MP3. Up until now I've been playing the tapes of sermons through my soundcard and recording them using WaveEditor which comes with Nero 5.5. Needless to say this is a tedious task and it takes about 2 hours to get from a tape of sunday's morning and evening sermons to two MP3 files ready to be uploaded to the website.

To cut down the time to get the sermons internet-ready I want to be able to records them digitally. Does anyone have any recommendations for devices for recording straight to a digital format? MiniDisc? iPod? What are my options?

cheers,
Andy

Hi,

Do you have\access to a digital camcorder? If there is one available to you w\passthrough technology, you can capture via firewire (VERY FAST) to avi. From that you'll have an audio track (wav) that can be quickly converted with WaveEditor or Audacity or Adobe Audition.

Sorry, I don't have any experience w\MiniDisc or iPod. If they only save to mp3 as opposed to raw wav, your editing choices may be limited.

Hi Fijian,

I have a suggestion. I use a portable, MP3 player/recorder and it works very well. Mine is called the Archos Jukebox Recorder 10. It has 10GB of storage and connects to the computer with a USB cable. You can record with its mic or you can run your own mic to it. Running your own gets you better sound quality. Use a Shure mic and a monster cable for high quality recordings.

It will record in a variable bitrate around 175. You can copy the file to your computer and encode it at 160 or 128 bits; which is CD quality.

God bless,
Jason
