is there anyone who likes to play, real-time strategy games? games like: highland warriors, stronghold, empire earth?

i really enjoy them. although, my younger brother told me, that nobody really is in playing that kind of games. ;)

but what do you think of, to use witches, deamons and all this kind of characters to play the game. and is there any , game, where you can play without them?

Look around and see if you can find a copy of Earth 2150. The manual stinks and there is somewhat of a steep learning curve but if you take the time to learn the ins and outs of the game it is awesome. And no witches or demons. ;)

If you are looking for a good strategy game, I highly recommend the Codemaster's title, Soldiers: Heroes of WWII. The game has a pretty decent physics engine, one of the better for RTS titles, and allows the played to take control of a unit and direct the line of fire. Give ya few examples: I was playing an American mission and had control of a Sherman. Well a German sniper perched himself in a window and was sniping the AI troops. No problem, I selected an HE round my trusty Sherman, aimed for the window and fired. The round went through the window, completely missed the pesky sniper, and remodeled the building behind it. Other instances include soldiers getting killed by debris from an exploding vehicles and demolished buildings.

There is a future Codemaster's title called, Wartime Command: Battle for Europe, with a 04-Oct-04 release date for the US. Considering that Codemasters is based in the UK, you might be able to get this title sooner than we will on this side of the pond. I do not know much about it other than the screen shots are pretty impressive.

Have a blessed day

The C&C games are still my favorite.
Homeworld is awesome aswell.
Total Annihilation is also an incredible game, especially the music. The game is so dramatic, you have a massive battle of warships out in the middle of two islands and they play the same music you would play during the end of the world. Incredible.

I like setting up a base, loading it up with defense buildings with some sort of long range seige artilery behind it, uprage, and wait till the enemy runs out of resources then attack with the most wimpy yet devistating attack possible.

MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!

quite interesting - there are only guys filling this thread. where are all the girl players?

thanks a lot for your advice. some of the games, i have never heard of - others i thought of buying. i think, i have to find out for me personally what i like most. cause everyone has it´s own favourite. ;)

but what is with "war of the ring" - in my opinion it uses demons and witches?! and another question of the war stretgy - do you have to fight like in "back to castle wolfenstein"? cause, i don´t like fighting. :)

although, i would like to join the army ... and my favourite game is soccer!

There are couple of female players that visit the boards, so you are not along.

The game, War of the Ring is loosely based on Tolkien's novel, The Lord of the Rings, and strongly resembles Warcraft. However, EA Games is releasing RTS title in September or October called, Battle for Middle Earth, which is based off the movies. It is a strategy game however, so it will feature the traditional top-down view like most RTS games feature.

I don't think there are any witches in Lord of the Ring War of the Ring... great game by the way. But there is that huge flame demon thing like in the first part of the movie.. I used to have the game, had a hard time with my old out dated videocard. It's a great game, espeically to play as the cave trolls.

LOTR Battle for middle earth looks awesome, though i'm not a fan of RTS that involves mass armies (too much micro management ahh!)... I am willing to play it just because it has cave trolls.

Starcraft is certifiably the best RTS ever. Don't listen to TA fans!

I'm just joking around... I don't mean to start up the old argument. But just for the sake of the RTS discussion, Starcraft revolutionized the genre by having three completely different but competative races. I've got high hopes for Starcraft 2... whenever they make it... *sigh*

TA also revolutionised the RTS genre. 3D units, 3D terrain, an incredible physics engine...

However, I feel that I must give credit to Dark Reign here. They were actually the first game to have them, as they came out half a hear before TA did. They also had 3D terrain, true LOS, etc. TA simply had more innovations, and put them to better use.

SC'ers, don't respond unless your name is Pope Gonzo or you have something that will not restart the whole TA vs SC debate (*shudder*).

EDIT: Age of Empires was mentioned. Age 1 was good, but it's Age 2 and the Conquerors that really stood out. Get Age 2 and the Conquerors expansion if you can.

i think i´m getting lost. TA, RTS, SC - what does all this mean?

waiting for the LOTR game - i´m really a big fan of it. wasn´t aware that there is an good strategy game available.

playing right now "highland warriors" - don´t know why, but it always shuts down in the middle of a mission. and i can´t load saved games. :sigh:

Oh wow a third side. That takes a lot of brainpower to think of, way to go Blizzard, no one could have done it but you.

TA was much more revolutionary than SC could have ever dreamed of being. Everything was done almost perfectly (except for the story which was really stupid, but who cares. The game was great), the music, the gameplay, the unit selection, the ability to download new units, unique resource system.

Total Annihilation was the first game to ever do naval and air combat well. Most RTSes nowadays still aren't as good as TA was from the very beginning. And face it, Starcraft's air combat was not done well at all. Limited unit selection, unit limits, easy rushing and unbalanced combat make Starcraft the most overrated RTS of all time.

Total Annihilation and C&C are the games that made the genre and SC leeched off of their innovation.

If your new to real time strategy, I would recommend one of the Command and Conquer games, they are probably the easiest ones to get familiar with quickly. Total Annihilation is considerably more complex so you would want to try that one later. It is old, but its still great.

Btw, Homeworld is by far the greatest RTS of all time. But no one bought it, stupid stupid people.

I think the same should go for TA fans as well :)

TA and SC have both contributed very much so into the RTS genre. I'll save myself the time and not actually write out the entire debate myself, but I will say this: they both appeal to different natures, and it's a matter of preference. Like I said, they've both contributed very much, and that can't be denied.

Edit: As a reply to the previous post, I say Starcraft is still great because it simply doesn't get old for me. Every game is a new situation, and even with the same units over and over, it's always a good time. But to each his own.
