Eh, the starcraft fans are much more forgiving of TA. Note that most of them are willing to say that TA was a good game in many respects, and revolutionary in several. Whereas the TA fans are like "Starcraft t3h suxx0rs! LOL ROFL LAMEO!!!!1!!1"

The fact of the matter is starcraft was simply better executed then TA. TA overjumped the technology, and has many flaws, some of which are simply gamewreckers if abused (Transport commander grab anyone?) Starcraft is much more balanced, and leads to a much faster paced, quicker, and more tactical game.

P.S. No one has a real problem with rushes in starcraft once the six zergling rush was eliminated by the spawning pool price upgrade.

Well you should. Relic was absolutely brilliant for making it. Although it came with a few bugs, they were quickly fixed. The gameplay was marvelous and innovative, it actually had a good storyline, it had excellent sound and did phenomonal things graphics wise. I can load up Homeworld now and it still looks high quality compared to other games I have played. You can only really tell its age by zooming in close on the various ships.

The Homeworld series is the only time ever when I've been playing a game and actually become emotional at all. Most games you want to beat just because thats the point, and thats how you get the most out of your gameplay. In Homeworld you wanted to avenge the destruction of Kharak, you wanted to see Hiigara, there were no characters other then the voice of Karan and of Fleet Intelligence and the Bentusi tradeship. But they still made you connect with the people on the mothership you never saw, and desperately hope that you could make sure that the sacrifice of everyone they have ever known was not in vain. You never saw the Taidanii but they still made you despise them for what they had done. The most tense moment in the history of real time strategy was either when the Turanic Raider ships attacked the mothership for the first time, or when you first arrived at the Bridge of Sighs and saw the fleet you had to find a way past. They mesmerized you with the arrival of the Bentusi tradeship, and they made you pity the Kadesh for their multitude of years spent in exhile, hiding in a nebula with no outside contact. This game culminated the golden era of real time strategy into one final perfect game.

Cataclysm and H2 were not nearly as good as the original, but they too were done better then any RTS since Homeworld. And Cataclysm was beter then nearly any that had come before it.

Once you have mastered the real time strategy genre, I highly recommend Homeworld. It is always impressive the first time you play it, and continues to impress for years to come.

I liked Age of Empires II, Starcraft and Warcraft II & III.

By the way, do Shogun & Medieval : Total War qualify as RTS? It is possible to play and win like a turn based game like Risk without commanding a single real-time battle yourself, although that is where most of the fun is.

Not really. People say TA is revolutionary because it is revolutionary. But I know what you mean. But kudos to me, I recognise some of SC's good points.

Besides, go to Gamespy someday and look around in their forums for the Greatest RTS of all time thread (which TA won :) ) and there's this real jackass who basically says SC is god and all the RTS gamers who don't play SC aren't real RTS players. I've seen a repeat of that on many other forums too.

Is Starcraft still stuck in the 640x480 resolution?
I haven't found out how to up it. Seem to remember reading something about 640x480 limit so all players have same area of map viewable (fairness). I really haven't looked hard enough though so I could be wrong.

What did we say about not restarting the argument? Do I have to dig up my list of lists of all-time greatest games(TA was #50 on 1 of them... SC in the top ten of them all)?

Ok, I'm done. I promise

I'm just saying, there are lots and lots of rabid SC'ers out there.
